United Farmworkers Endorses Bill Monning for 27th Assembly
The United Farmworkers Union chose the birthday of UFW founder Cesar Chavez to announce its endorsement of Bill Monning in the 27th Assembly District. Union president, Arturo Rodriquez released the following statement on what would have been Cesar Chavez’ 81st birthday:
“It is an honor for me to announce the endorsement of the United Farm Workers Union for Bill Monning’s candidacy in the 27th Assembly District. Bill is a long time friend of the farmworkers and working families in California. Bill fought to win the field posting ordinance to protect farmworkers and rural families from toxic pesticide exposure. He has proven his ability to bring diverse stake-holders to a table of dialogue and is without doubt the best candidate to represent all constituents in the 27th Assembly District. Bill worked directly with Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and the members of our union. We release this endorsement on the occasion of our honoring the birthday of Cesar Chavez whose legacy lives strong in the work of Bill Monning and so many others who continue to champion the cause of social and economic justice.”
Founded in 1962 by Cesar Chavez, the United Farm Workers of America is the nation’s largest farmworkers union currently active in 10 states.
The UFW endorsement of Bill Monning comes on the heels of a long list of other labor endorsements, which includes the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council, SEIU Local 521, and the South Bay Labor For Immediate Release: March 31, 2008
