Haiti: Seven Months of Complicity and Silence on Lovinsky Pierre Antoine

by Francklyn Bien-aimé Geffrard
It has already been Seven (7) months since we no longer see the coordinator of Foundation 30 Septembre at the head of the weekly "sit-in's" organized every Wednesday at Place des Martyrs, Champs De Mars in memory of the thousands of victims of the military Coup of 1991.

Lovinsky Pierre Antoine is one of the rare men to have demanded Justice and Reparations in favor of the victims of the military Putsch of September 30. Victims who we seem to already forget, for we have become a straight up amnesic society.

Seven (7) months already went by since that we no longer hear the voice of this man who made a definite stand through the rare Haitian radios that granted him to spread his word, against the abuses, the violations of the Rights of the Haitian People, the injustices and the deprivations of all sorts to which the population is subjected.

This voice, who seems to have disquieted many sectors, stopped resounding on the evening of August 12, 2007.

And the silence prevails on the disappearance of Lovinsky. Those are the orders. We must not talk about it. But all those who chose to be silent are accomplice on this matter and thus, must know that they may unconsciously prepare their own disappearance, that will doubtlessly be unnoticed. The People's Disappearing Machine does not spare anyone. Not even the agents of the infernal system set up by the national and international Mafia that plagues the country. This Mafia is intolerant. It is present in all levels of society. It seeps into all sectors.

Since last August 12, Lovinsky Pierre Antoine has been reported Missing In Action.
For the past Seven (7) long and painful months, we have still left without any news about him, the Justice Department and the police, the so-called human rights organizations, the embassies, the United Nations, the political parties, the Haitian government, and a certain press are silent.

In fact this is the best way to stifle such an embarrassing case. Not even the Anti-kidnapping Brigade of the National Police,
which members are paid out of the population's taxes, attempted anything to find traces of Lovinsky Pierre Antoine.

We already forget that there was a citizen, a political and Human Rights militant, who has served the country, whose name was Lovinsky Pierre Antoine.

For the past Seven (7) months, the police and judiciary authorities who claimed to investigate this matter, are still not able to shed any light on the disappearance of Lovinsky Pierre Antoine. As a matter of fact, these authorities are mocking the population. There never was an investigation. They have neither any will or any invested interest in elucidating this case.
Lovinsky seems to have been a thorn in the collaborators' thigh.

So far, only the Fanmi Lavalas grassroots militants dare to denounce the authorities' silence around the disappearance of Lovinsky Pierre Antoine. They protest and publish press releases to demand clarity on this matter. The big hats of the Lavalas Party fold their arms and keep their mouths shut.

Nevertheless, seven (7) months prior, Lovinsky always was at the head of all the protests demanding the departure of the occupants, the return of exiled Comrades, the Liberation of the Political Prisoners, the end of the violations of the Rights of the Haitian People and the improvement of the life conditions of the population at large. These demands are voiced by the majority of the population.

What crime did Lovinsky Pierre Antoine commit, so that his disappearance can be encourtered with such great indifference?

Can we consider as a crime the fact that someone remains loyal to his political conviction and to his ideals, related to the creation of a Lawful and Democratic State in Haiti?

If such is the case, no doubt that we will all disappear, all the citizen Brothers and Sisters, all the consequential and rightful Patriots who denounce the presence of the occupants in the country and the presence of the international and national Mafia that, in turns, shapes or disfigures the face of Haiti.

This Mafia is powerful, since it has a hold on a lot of all the (political, economical) power. What's more, the media sell out to the Mafia. The means of communication are entirely devoted to the service of this Mafia that distributes dollars and visas to the cursed souls of Haiti.
But its power is not stronger (and cannot destroy) the consciousness of the true Nationalist Patriots who still believe in the future of the country.

What a pity that in Haiti, there has always been (and still are) those who sell their souls for nothing more than a plate of food or a visa. They are ready to do anything, when it comes to performing dirty jobs against their compatriots and against the interests of the Country.

The common silence on the disappearance of Lovinsky Pierre Antoine is all together heavy and troubling, but above all, stands as a complicity of unsurpassed cynicism.
