Peace Fresno Describes Today’s Event:

Sixth Annual Rally in the Valley for Peace and Justice ... Now!

Much to the disappointment and frustration of its members, Peace Fresno is forced to announce the Sixth Annual Rally In The Valley For Peace And Justice...Now! The Rally in the Valley will be held this Saturday, March 15, at Eaton Plaza, N and Mariposa Streets, in downtown Fresno next to the Water Tower, from 1:00 until 4:00 PM.

Once more we will Rally to insist that enough is enough. We must stop the immoral and unjust Occupation of Iraq. We must stop the immoral, unjust, and senseless killing of more than a million Iraqis and of more than four thousand of our own troops. We must stop spending $1 trillion plus per year on war and preparing for war and on subsidizing the wealthy corporations that support this military killing machine. As a nation, we must take the lead in establishing peace and justice for all, both nationally and globally.

Speakers at the Rally will include Eli Paintedcrow, Native American and 22 year Army veteran who served in Iraq; the Rev. Bryan Jessup, Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno; Gloria Hernandez, Comite No Nos Vamos, and Scott Key, President of Peace Fresno. Music will be supplied by the Raging Grannies, Frank Moschella, Uncle Bill Warner, and "The Collective", a group of local high school and college musicians.

The Rally will begin with a March across Mariposa Mall to the Fulton Clock Tower where we will engage in street theater. We will then return to Eaton Plaza for the rest of the program. About forty groups are participating in the Rally and many will begin tabling at Eaton Plaza at 12:30 PM.

Cosponsoring organizations for the Rally include: Fresno Center for Nonviolence, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Committee, Central Valley Progressive Political Action Committee, Central Valley Counter-Recruitment Coalition, Fresno County Democratic Central Committee, Fresno Free College Foundation / KFCF 88.1 FM, Fresno Filmworks, California Prison Moratorium Project, LaRaza Against War, Comite No Nos Vamos, SunMt, OffLine Independent Energy Systems, Community Alliance Newspaper, Pan Valley Institute, and Wesley United Methodist - Faith and Justice Committee.

Supporting organizations include: Humanists of San Joaquin Valley and the South Valley Peace Center.

The Rally is also endorsed by: Peace and Freedom Party of Fresno County, Fresno County Green Party, San Joaquin Democratic Club, Californians for Justice, Peace and Justice Committee of College Community Congregational Church, Kings View- MHSA Youth Outreach and Engagement Program, the Central California Criminal Justice Committee, and Mariposa Progressive Action Roundtable. Additional groups will have tables at the Rally.

At the Free Speech Area on the Fulton Mall, street theater was performed by detainees in orange jump suits. Performers described how our civil liberties were being violated and then there was a massive die in.
