UC SCapegoating of Students Present at Tree-Sit Continues
Update: Cruz Molina's Judicial Review Canceled at Last Minute by UCSC
Cruz Molina, one of two UCSC freshman targeted for supporting anti-expansion protests, has a student hearing on March 13th at 4pm at the UCSC Inn (611 Ocean St.). A handful of UCSC administrators will decide on disciplinary measures against Cruz. His supporters say he is being scapegoated and that the UC is trying to hold Cruz responsible for all past, present and future actions of the tree-sit protest. Students will rally at the UCSC Inn from 3-5pm to show their solidarity.
RadGrad writes, "EVC Klieger just spammed all of us about some initiative that "will engage individuals and groups in continuing dialogue about the issues that have recently divided us." Well, apparently there's some miscommunication here. The director of Student Judicial Affairs, Doug Zuidema, wants to avoid dialogue so much that he's denied a student who's set up to take the fall for the tree-sit, Cruz Molina, his request to be represented by an attorney or to have the case decided by his peers. In fact, Zuidema is apparently so afraid of dialogue that the hearing's going to be held off-campus behind closed doors."
