The teachers union/syndicate "Seccion 22" held massive LOCAL marches throughout Oaxaca. ![]() dsc00430.jpg The teachers (of public schools) held marches yesterday through the whole state of Oaxaca. It's about the first meeting for the election of a new secretary of their "Sección 22 del Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (SNTE)".
But the marches were more political and against Calderon, Ulises Ruiz, the new social law ISSTE and the privatisation (like Mexican oil industry). As is common knowledge; Seccion 22 from the teachers is the base of APPO and consists of merely socialist PRD members and fewer members of more leftwing, radical and activist groups. I was at the local march in Tehuantepec from the start, after being invited by a local APPO leader whom I accidentially met just before. The march left after 09.00 (Friday Feb 8th) and arrived just before 11.00. news.google articles in Spanish: http://news.google.com/news?ned=es_mx&ncl=1162536598

http://www.oloramitierra.com.mx/?mod=read&sec=general&id=15985&titulo= This is the former president of the Chamber of Commerce and also involved in the recent trans-Istmo project (some fake copy of the Panama project). Two weeks ago, the president of the private bussines police was murdered together with a guard and two bystanders. Something is going on in these circuits and it might have to do more with narcos (with higher, government & secret service connections). The Istmo region of Oaxaca was very quiet in general, but since the end of summer 2007, narco-related murders and violence started here. One can also see hotel Guiexhoba at the abovemarch picture "crossroad to Tehuantepec" under the traffic sign "Oaxaca & Mexico". ![]() dsc00484.jpg Friday was the day of the march and the day of the kidnap. I took this picture at the march in front of hotel Guiexhoba. Many militaries and police arrived and started searching cars.
Cinco maestros de la sección 22 del SNTE mueren en accidente
http://www.jornada.unam.mx/2008/01/31/index.php?section=estados&article=040n2est (5 teachers of section 22 from SNTE dy in accident) At the high days of the Oaxacan revolt, a lot of teachers died in accidents on the long and dangerous mountain roads to and from Oaxaca-city. Some suspect sabotage (like brakes, steering, tires), but till now there are no indications for thta possibility. See also the article pics of the Spanish pamflet/article. I think it also is about one of these deaths. Maybe someone has time to (partly) translate? Director of Obscure Police Agency Assassinated in Oaxaca City
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/01/30/18475847.php (as background info for the possible connection I've made with the kidnap of the hotel Guiexhoba owner) From the articles news.google march link:
37 marchas simultáneas de maestros, en todo Oaxaca http://www.proceso.com.mx/noticia.html?sec=2&nta=57046&nsec=Estados Up to 70.000 leraren and 1 million, 300 thousand children without classes. I'm not sure about the Spanish articles, mentioning problems with the present secretary of their seccion 22 movement and other issues.
Because of this, I dont want to make a bad translation and hope someone else gets the picture better. This meeting is something like the first convecatorio; as I understand it's a necesary meeting, to legally vote at a future meeting. |
