Has Hugo Chavez really uplifted the majority of the people in Venezuela? Do recent elections in Latin America presage a progressive shift in the region’s politics? Can Latin America break free of the International Monetary Fund and external debt? Can it break free from us?

Join us on Tuesday February 19, 2008 to hear Prof. Helen Shapiro of UCSC address these questions at the February WILPF program. Dr. Shapiro holds a doctorate in economics from Yale, has taught at the Harvard Business School, and currently teaches Latin American Studies and Economics at UCSC.
