KPFA Radio to Broadcast the Largest Teach-In in US History FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 24, 2008 KPFA Radio to Broadcast the Largest Teach-In in US History Over One Thousand Colleges to Participate in Global Warming Day (Berkeley, CA - January 24, 2008) While the ice caps melt and the government stalls, campus organizers are putting together the largest teach-in in U.S. history – and KPFA Radio will broadcast the event from the campus of San Francisco State University. On January 30th and 31st, scholars, activists, and policymakers will gather at SF State and over one thousand other colleges and universities across the country to discuss the future of our planet. Expert speakers will include Van Jones, Michael Glantz, and Dennis Martinez. “Focus the Nation is the largest grassroots effort to date to energize the country to take urgent action to address climate change,” says teach-in organizer and San Francisco State professor Carlos Davidson. “All that we lack to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is political will.” KPFA Radio will broadcast the teach-in on Thursday, January 31st from 10am to 6pm, anchored by Karolo Aparicio, Brian Edwards-Tiekert, Michelle Chan-Fishell, Kris Welch, Davey D, and Nora Barrows-Friedman. “Global warming presents the most important challenge that people have ever faced,” says Aparicio, co-host of KPFA’s Terra Verde. “We stand at the crossroads and have a choice between sustainability and renewable energy or business as usual, sea levels, social upheaval, and mass extinctions.” For more information, go to http://www.kpfa.org and bss.sfsu.edu/envstudies/schedule.html. ### Founded in 1949, KPFA is the United States' first listener-sponsored radio station and the flagship station in the Pacifica Radio Network. Broadcasting on 94.1 FM in Berkeley, CA, and 88.1 FM on KFCF in Fresno, KPFA's signal reaches one third of the state of California. KPFA's website, kpfa.org, serves thousands of listeners all over the world. KPFA's innovative news, arts, public affairs, and music programs have won numerous awards and have helped define radio in America. |
