Peninsula | Anti-WarIraq Moratorium #5: Mtn. View Recruiting Station Part I
***SHRINE TO AMERICAN FEMALE CASUALTIES ERECTED IN FRONT OF RECRUITING CENTER*** *To date 93 American servicewomen have lost their lives in the war on Iraq.*
Members of the Raging Grannies Action League held a memorial service and left a shrine to the fallen in front of a brand new recruiting station in Mountain View, CA. At 1:30pm as we left the scene visitors to the shopping district at Grant Rd. and El Camino Real were seen stopping to observe the flag, candles, flowers and list of names of the dead. This Event was part of the Iraq Moratorium National Action and was supported by individual members of Los Altos Voices for Peace, Mountain View Voices for Peace and Veterans for Peace who joined us in a demonstration of approximately 35 people.
Grannies prepare Shrine to Fallen Servicewomen
The Military Recruiting Station in Mountain View is called the "US Armed Forces Career Center" and was locked with a padlock. They might have known we were coming.
Here you can see the Grannies preparing the shrine with US flag, flowers, and names and photos of some of the 93 dead US servicewomen.

Sharks Territory
Ironically, this sign is displayed in the window of the Play It Again Sam Sports Equipment next door to the recruiting station. Playing on that theme we displayed our own message: Mountain View is Raging Grannies Territory

Grannies Marian and Arloa
Marian is 90 and served as an air traffic controller in WWII. She saw the aftermath of the Manhattan Project.
Coincidence
Granny Friend Tian happened to wear a t-shirt with the number 93 on it....the number of US servicewomen killed to date.

Demonstrating for the greater public to see
Dying is NOT a career
...although the US Armed Forces "Career Center" would have you believe otherwise.
