Suggestions for Street Performers Fighting Police Bullying

by Robert Norse
I've found that police have regularly suggested that "I've received a complaint" is justification for demanding a street musician pack it in and move. Not so. The police are relying on your willingness to unquestioningly comply. Consider instead the actual law involved. Often if you reasonably stand your ground with witnesses (an audio recorder is also nice), police back down. It's not without risk, but there are other risks in surrendering your rights silently.
