San Francisco Airport Concession Workers Reach Agreement with HMS Host

San Francisco Airport Concession Workers Reach Agreement with HMS Host, Declare 2 Week Cooling-Off Period at Other Restaurants
UNITE HERE Local 2 reached a tentative agreement on December 21st in contract negotiations with HMS Host, a company employing 140 workers at four San Francisco International Airport (SFO) restaurants. Local 2 represents food service workers in 48 restaurants at SFO.

Workers at 44 other restaurants remain without a contract, and have authorized their bargaining committee to call a strike if necessary. At the request of Airport Director John Martin, however, the bargaining committee has agreed to call a two-week “cooling off” period, during which there will be no work stoppages and no negotiations. The union expects the agreement to be adopted by the other employers when negotiations resume this month.

“We’re thrilled we won this settlement with Host,” said Molly Gomez, a member of the union’s bargaining committee and a food service worker at SFO for 28 years. “It secures our families’ health care and begins to catch us up to the high cost of living in the Bay Area. But Host employees know it’s not over until the rest of SFO’s food service workers have the same contract.”

Workers have been struggling to renegotiate a contract with their employers for over a year. The tentative agreement with Host must still be ratified by a vote of the union’s members.
