Proposed Helios Building site cleared and ready for construction to begin in 2008.

The UC administration has been ignoring community opposition to the deal.

Berkeley residents along with many UCB students and faculty have been opposed to the deal, concerned about the hydro/ecological impacts to Strawberry Canyon and the Berkeley community from GMO testing, and that BP's private interests will be dictating UC Berkeley's research agenda.

Many trees have already been removed from the construction site, well before the contract was signed. Consulting arborists failed to create a safety-zone for trees nearby the construction site.
