§Fee Hike Resistance is Spreading
by a small info table
Fee Hike Resistance started organizing at CSU Stanislaus on Monday, November 20th for an "Emergency Student Meeting" about the fee hikes. We distributed 500 copies of a flyer for the emergency meeting, which includes information about the fee hikes and the effect it will have on students (and how the CSU Board of Trustees is making a killing off of us).

Fee Hike Resistance also made 250 copies of a newsletter, "Fee Hike Resistance", a newsletter that talks about the fee hikes and also has information about student action in Canada, Santa Cruz, etc.

Copies of the newsletter and meeting flyer were handed out throughout the campus, placed on bulletin boards, placed under (almost every) faculty member's door, in the library, in class rooms, and throughout the dorms.

By Tuesday, when members of Fee Hike Resistance set up a small info table to talk to students about the meeting and the fee hikes, some students already had gotten copies of the flyer, were planing on going, etc.

Already we have accomplished one of our goals, in that the student body who largely was not aware of the fee hikes, now is at least talking about the issues and how it will effect them. DJ's at the college radio station ( 91.9) also have been talking about the meeting and telling students to come out on Tuesday. A member of Fee Hike Resistance also went into various class rooms and talked to students and many were interested enough to take flyers. Members of Fee Hike Resistance also talked to faculty about speaking at the meeting, although some expressed a fear of being fired if they didn't have tenure.

There is still much to do before next Tuesday, but for sure we have managed to penetrate the consciousness of many students about the fee hikes. What happens on Tuesday is unknown. This could be the start of something never seen before at CSU or perhaps just a flash in the pan...we'll see.

What is to be sure is that without the inspiration of the UCSC tree sit, Fee Hike Resistance probably would not have gotten of the ground.

For those looking to show solidarity with our actions, they should call the student radio station at : 209 667-3900 and ask that the DJ announce information about the "Student Fee Hike Meeting", which takes place on November 27th, at 12 noon in the Quad outside the library. They can also tell others at CSUs about what we are doing and to connect with us at: stopfeehikes [at] yahoo.com
