**Dia de los Muertos en Palo Alto** Mariachi, folklorico y Las Abuelitas Enojadas en Palo Alto, a Rancho La Purisima Concepcion.
We celebrated the dedication of a monument to Juana Briones de Miranda, Latina Pioneer of California's Rancho Period. Juana Briones was a property owner, independent businesswoman, and managed her ranch consisting of over 4,000 acres. She was a well known and respected curandera who learned many of her cures from the local Indians. She treated many of the ill during a major smallpox epidemic in San Francisco. Though it is a California Registered Historical Landmark, her home is in danger of being torn down. The current owners refuse to respect the conditions of historic preservation under which they purchased the home, and a legal battle is under way. Contact the Raging Grannies to find out how you can help.

Two who have worked tirelessly
Clark Akatiff and Jean McDonnell share a hug at the dedication of the memorial plaque. They are just amongst many who have worked long and hard to save Juana's house. The Raging Grannies only joined the campaign in the last 6 months, but we are appalled by the sheer NERVE of the current owners of the house who continue to employ legal tricks to try and demolish Juana's home.
Palo Alto Mayor Yoriko Kishimoto
Yoriko has in her hand the lyrics the Raging Grannies sang to start off the afternoon including our song to the tune of *Good Night Irene* called *What would Juana Want?*
Shrine and plaque
Baby Alexis slept through it all
Two-month old son of one of the Mariachi musicians somehow didn't mind all the noise of the horns and the Grannies trilling... Las Abuelitas raised a ruckus in the neighborhood, calling on Juana's spirit to join in!
