The October 22nd, the National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation in Oakland is on!!! Converge 1:30 pm Oakland City Hall/Frank Ogawa Plaza 2:00 pm March 3:30 pm Rally at City Hall/Frank Ogawa Plaza Community Feeder March- Justice for Gary King Jr., No More Stolen Lives! Gary King, Sr. has called on families and members of the community to join a feeder march--from the Oakland community on October 22nd. Gary King, Jr. was brutally killed on Sept 20, by Oakland police officer Sgt. Patrick Gonzales. This is same route Gary King, Sr., family, and friends organized shortly after the Oakland police killed Gary King Jr. Justice for Gary King Jr! No More Stolen Lives! 11:00 am Gather Mosswood Park (Broadway and MacArthur) 12:30 March from Mosswood Park to Frank Ogawa Plaza (to join the main convergence at 1:30pm Frank Ogawa/City Hall) ------------------------------------------ On October 17th the Oakland police verbally said they had denied the march permit. But with the help of people (phoning the police department and Mayor's officials) and our lawyers, on October 18th the Oakland police dept. verbally said this is a freedom of speech issue and thus they cannot deny or issue the permit. We discussed the march route and sound issues on Friday October 19th, and the march route and sound permits were finally issued on Friday afternoon. As we have said, we are determined to march and rally on October 22nd. From Jena, Louisiana and from the East Coast to the West Coast people are saying "enough is enough." October 22nd is a national day of protest-happening in Chicago, New York, in LA and Oakland and many other cities. It is a day when thousands across the country act to STOP police brutality, repression, and the way our youth are treated like criminals. Sean Bell was killed in a hail of 50 bullets on his wedding day and Gary King Jr was shot and tasered in the back by Sargeant Patrick Gonzalez on Sept 20,2007. As Gary King Jr's mother said, "he had his whole life ahead of him." We need Justice for Gary King, Jr! No More Stolen Lives. Join families, community members and others in this community march (feeder march). On October 22nd, there must be a spotlight on the NATIONAL epidemic of police brutality. This is a day when courageous families like Gary King, Jr's family and other families who have lost loved ones at the hands of the police, and youth, immigrants, teachers, churches, community groups, civil liberty organizations and many others come together to STOP police violence, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. On October 22nd, there is an urgent need for a powerful outpouring. The nationwide epidemic of police brutality and repression is hidden from many people who would be outraged if they knew what was happening. Immigration police continue to terrorize immigrant communities raiding jobs and homes and separating husbands and wives and parents from children. This official brutality and repression must stop! We must resist the onslaught of police abuse as we work in many ifferent ways to drag this truth out into the light of day. Our resistance will give others courage! Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. No More Stolen Lives! Wear Black, Fight Back! Stop ICE (immigration)raids!
