Third World And Native American Students Press Collective (TWANAS) Meeting (10/29)
TWANAS is looking for writers, photographers, graphic designers, activists and artists of color who are dedicated to the liberation of, formerly named, "Third World" and Indigenous peoples. We invite you to contribute to this publication through writing, art or whatever medium inspires you most.
The Third World And Native American Students Press Collective (TWANAS) was established in 1979 as a response to the violent racism, sexism, classism and homophobia at the University of California Santa Cruz campus.
TWANAS is a quarterly student-run publication dedicated to the liberation of "Third World" and Indigenous peoples. With the inaccurate and scarce reporting of issues concerning communities of color in current campus media, there is a persistent need for students of color to collectively mobilize to create a space that addresses issues that otherwise would not be addressed. We strive to create a publication that demands justice for all peoples and that serves as a vehicle for true unapologetic expression.
The deadline to submit to this Fall's issue is Monday October 29th. Our staff meetings are held weekly at the Baytree Mahlone Conference room (the first conference room on the floor), Mondays at 7pm.
Email us at twanaspress [at] gmail.com for submissions, questions or words of encouragement.

While the cause fought for by this organization is extremely important and deserves all support, my only observation is that the name used for it is in itself a distortion of reality. "Third World" is an artificial label created to divide humanity in groups of privileged and inferior ones, so that to establish the relation of control, pride and humiliation. Why does this organization even stick this label on itself is a big question for me. In order to free themselves from exploitation, people must at first free themselves in their own minds from artificial and malintended concepts used to perpetuate a crooked and harmful idea.
In this way, it seems that your identity is based on your relation of opposition to the "First World" you aspire for. In this case there will not be any change, because there will remain a third world forever... WE should focus on one world, humanity is one, the whole universe is our home, and so this "Third World" entry should be thrown out of the dictionary of the present and future we want, in the garbage of history. It does not exist in reality, except in the minds of those who invented this term with crooked intentions and those who accept it to legitimate their victim status. Fight for dignity, create an integral identity which does not depend on tyrants but on your relation with greatness.
