Misperceptions Dominate Debate Over Gang Injunctions

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 : Though widely hailed as a proactive approach to handling gang-related crime, gang injunctions are not quite as advertised. Yet the positivity surrounding the injections has hidden more frightening perceptions behind the strategy. Thankfully for discussion’s sake, the Examiner’s conservative columnist Ken Garcia articulated the sort of right-wing attitude that opponents of the gang injunctions have most feared—language more reminiscent of the rhetoric surrounding the War on Terror than of any of San Francisco’s local values.
