Nude sunning in SF park? WHICH park??

Should all SF city parks become clothing-optional?
Or just one acre, in one remote location?
Altho George Davis is an independent nude candidate for San Francisco mayor in 2007, he hasn't been endorsed by any nudist organization. Indeed, some Bay Area nudist activists fear that his tactics may backfire, as happened in Berkeley during the early 1990s (remember The Naked Guy?).

Aside from tactics, let's consider his stated goal --
that ALL of Golden Gate Park should become clothing-optional.

After four decades of struggling for the rights of nudists, I'm not as optimistic as George. I think his goal might be possible by 2107, IF California continues moving toward more freedom,
but such a proposal will go no-where in 2007.

San Francisco already enjoys federal beaches where nudity is tolerated ( Land's End beach, north portion of Baker Beach, etc.). We've come a long way forward since the Sixties.

Our ocean beaches are often foggy and cold, especially in summer (remember Mark Twain's famous joke?). It would be nice to be able to go nude at some designated portion of some city park.

But WHERE, exactly? The designated site must be in a culturally and politically progressive neighborhood --- that is, in the Castro or in the Haight.

Tolerance prevails at the informal Hippie Hill Drum Circle,
held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. "Hippie Hill" is a portion of Sharon Meadow, favored since the Sixties by alternative-culture
types. Alas, we must rule out this location, because it's too near a playground. We need an isolated spot.

A few blocks east of Golden Gate Park, but still in the Haight-Ashbury cultural zone, stands a tall hill, known as Buena Vista Park.
To climb up this forested hill, you need effort and determination. You won't just "accidentally" wander to the top. So an acre at (or near) the summit might be suitable as a demarcated clothing-optional zone.

The weekly debates by SF mayoral candidates
will continue each Friday evening at 5pm,
in Civic Center Plaza,
across street from SF City Hall.
...
This event returns to its original location;
after having been temporarily displaced
by an eco-house exhibit.
...

The nudist candidate will
probably
debate naked
for the second time.

At least the man has gumtion enough to do something, not like the lot of us who cannot seem to get off our own butts, I encourage him to continue. If I was local I would vote for him!
