An assortment of yummy cheeses, a variety of lovely California wines, encouraging progressive political conversation, and a revealing tour through rural northern California (without leaving Marin County), guided by Josh Kornbluth, monologist and host of The Josh Kornbluth Show on KQED. You will be able to enjoy it all during A Taste of Red Counties, an hors d’oeuvres tasting and afternoon social hosted by Take Back Red California.

Rural California produces some of the finest wine in the country, as well as cheese, fruit, nuts, beer, of course organic produce, and much more! TBRC has invited representatives of several northern California counties to share the best of their regions with the Bay Area. They’ll be bringing delicious tasting trays, baskets of locally produced goodies for drawings, and suggestions of beautiful places to get away for the weekend. For three hours on a Sunday afternoon, you have the opportunity to take a virtual and culinary journey through the extraordinary beauty and remarkable entrepreneurship flourishing in rural California.

And why is this about keeping California a safely “blue” state? A Taste of Red Counties will initiate and strengthen partnerships between Democratic grassroots activists across county lines, so that resources will be available in rural – often very conservative – counties to promote and elect city councilors, county supervisors, board and commission members, and congressional delegates that will promote job security, educational equity, conservation, and quality health care for all Californians.

California’s rural areas are its fastest-growing population centers, while our cities and suburbs are stagnating or shrinking… and with this migration comes a crucial shift in political clout. To safeguard California’s social and environmental leadership of the nation, we need to reach into historically conservative Republican areas and promote competent candidates who represent compassionate, pragmatic, holistic and ethical values. And we need to find creative ways to support the work that activists in these areas are already doing, against great odds.

This event is a delectable opportunity to have conversations with politically active grassroots folks who live in the “reddest” districts of our state and begin to understand the issues, how they are being addressed, and how urban activists can become more comfortable working in vitally important conservative rural areas.
