Tue Jun 26 Rally to Increase Access to Family Planning Tue, Jun 26, 2007 12:00 pm Tue, Jun 26, 2007 12:00 pm SF State Building McAllister between Polk and Larkin Streets http://globalexchange.org/getInvolved/bayarea.php It's Time to Get the Governor's Attention! Join the rally to ask the Governor to invest in family planning in this year’s budget. In his health care reform speech earlier this year, Governor Schwarzenegger recognized the need to increase Medi-Cal reimbursement rates. Now it's time for the Governor to take action! Although he chose to ignore the issue in his May revise budget, Governor Schwarzenegger has one more opportunity to make a real difference in women’s lives by increasing the Medi-Cal reimbursement rate for family planning visits in this year’s budget. As you likely know by now, due to insufficient reimbursement from the state, Planned Parenthood clinics across the state are forced to turn away 10,000 people every month who are seeking time-sensitive family planning care. This public health crisis cannot wait — the time is now to demand an increase in this year’s budget. Attendees will have the opportunity to hand-deliver a postcard of support to the Governor’s office. In addition to regular member announcements, Matt Gonzalez will be visiting us to learn how people feel about current city government. Let's think about the questions below as a place to start what should be a fairly casual discussion: - What are the 3 best things the city has done in the last 4 years? - What are the 3 worst things? - What do you want for our city? - How can we make it more abundant? Matt was Supervisor for SF District 5 (The Haight) and President of the Board of Supervisors from 2000 through 2004. Many might remember his run for Mayor in 2003 where he got 47% of the vote. He's thinking about doing again, to win, this year. Wanna help him decide? And as always, please come prepared to tell us about your passions, discuss your needs, and share your gifts so that we can help each other build the lives we want to live. We hope to see you there. A year ago they added a live DJ to play while they danced. It has now evolved into Spin Jam. I was asked to guest DJ'd there last night and I had such a good time I wanted to share it with others. It's free but they ask for a $5 donation or anything one can give for use of the space. Normally about 20-30 people show up. Chill crowd, great vibe, constant dancing. Sit with your stuff and meet folks who want it. Take home whatever you did not give away. Really Really Free Market Saturday, June 30 Noon-Dusk Dolores Park A Really Really Free Market is like a potluck for whatever you want to give or take away. Have you ever brought one dish to a potluck and gone away with a full belly and a balanced meal? Everybody brings something and goes away with more. We all have skills, ideas, objects, smiles, talents, friendship, excitement, discussions, and many other things to share. If we bring them all together at the Really Really Free Market, we can provide more balanced and full lives for everyone. As a community we have many more resources than we do as individuals. If we share our resources we won't need to buy as many new ones. This uses fewer of the Earth's resources, and fewer of our working hours, leaving us more time to devote to ourselves and our communities. Would we all work forty hours a week at one job if we didn't feel we had to? What if instead we worked at improving our individual skills and talents and shared them with each other? We would all spend more time doing things we enjoyed. The Really Really Free Market is an attempt to put these ideas into practice for four hours every month and then spread the seeds everywhere - share, share, share. Please help us keep the Really Really Free Market a 100% FREE and non-commercial event. Once a month, let's come together and forget about trading, bartering and money. Leave the business cards at home and remember the joy of giving for the sake of giving. Help us keep Art SF clean. If no one takes what you brought, please bring it home with you. http://www.reallyreallyfree.org Sat, Jun 30, 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm Really Really Free Market Dolores Park San Francisco http://globalexchange.org/getInvolved/bayarea.php June - July Plantings and Tree Care Days: http://fuf.net Inner Sunset Tre e Planting - June 30 - Christian Drake x100 Eureka Valley Tree Care - July 14 - Ellyn Shea x102 Lower Haight Tree Planting - July 21 - Mei Ling Hui x110 Needed: Planting Project Intern - Reed Milnes x103 Restoring the Civic Ecosystem & Natural Building- Hands On Placemaking playshop this Sat.
