The Middle East Program of the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz is sending 60 new basketball uniforms to the De La Salle Community Center in Bethlehem, Occupied Palestine. Friday afternoon's senior basketball pickup game at Mission Hill Middle School in Santa Cruz, California, interrupts play to show off Jerseys being sent to De La Salle Community Center in Bethlehem, occupied West Bank, Palestine.
Basketball players John Pini, athletic director of Branciforte Middle School, Santa Cruz City Schools; oncologist Tal Pomeroy; Attorney Benjamin Rice; electrical contractor Peter Klotz-Chamberlin; and Latin American activist Phil McManus contributed funds to send new basketball uniforms to the Bethlehem club. Sixty sets of brand new jerseys and shorts from Santa Cruz's Sports Design on Soquel avenue will outfit two boys' teams and one girls' team. The three teams with both Moslem and Christian Palestinian players are looking forward to the new threads, funding for which was raised by the Middle East Program of Santa Cruz's Resource Center for Nonviolence.
