Gay pride organizers in Jerusalem have been given
conditional approval to hold a parade in the city on
June 21.
Open House, the LGBT community center in Jerusalem,
had applied for the permit in March. It was only
Thursday that District Chief Cmdr. Ilan Franco
responded, citing a court order last year that said
police must allow the parade and provide the necessary
security.
"Let there be no doubt –
the police department is
fully obligated" by High Court ruling,
Franco's letter
to the Open House said.
But there was a caveat.
"This said, it is within the district commander's
jurisdiction to determine,
according to the
intelligence information and/or evidence
he may have
at hand,
on any restrictions he sees fit to apply to
the event, its location, and arrangements."
A spokesperson for Open House said it is still
awaiting a final approval from the district commander.
