UC CUSTODIANS WIN!

On May 22, 2007, after a year-and-a-half of organizing and mass actions,

UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Santa Barbara custodians declare victory,

winning substantial wage increases!

Also part of the equity fight,

UC Irvine groundskeepers win their in-sourcing campaign! The custodian pay equity campaign helps push UC to settle additional increases for AFSCME low-wage workers statewide – marking a step toward statewide equity in our contract.

* UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Santa Barbara custodians win $1.75/hour (as follows):

· Effective April 1, 2007, a $1.25/hour increase

· Effective October 1, 2007, a $0.50/hour increase

* All other UC custodians win a $0.50/hour increase effective April 1, 2007.

* UC Irvine groundskeepers win in-sourcing, plus retroactive vacation and sick leave credit to April 1, 2007.

* Other low-wage workers win 2% (for workers below $30,000), 1% (for workers between $30,000 and $34,999), and 0.5% (for workers between $35,000 and $39,999). Also, UC Berkeley workers win a new minimum wage of $11.70!

* These ranges will be IN ADDITION to our contractual increases for service workers in October.

* Ranges will adjust by the amount of the increase, and the increases will be base-building.

WE'RE TAKING BACK OUR UC.
