Kick off rally and press event as marchers begin their
journey

As anniversaries of the illegal war in Iraq tick by
year after year, a small group of students will take
an incredible stand against continued war and
occupation in the Middle East. A half dozen students
have planned an unprecedented and courageous march
from SF to DC – all on foot! Bay area Community
members will walk with the marchers on the first leg
of their determined and inspired journey.

Marchers and supporters will gather at Civic Center
plaza across from San Francisco City hall at 11 am on
Monday to gather momentum for the march, which will
kick off at noon. During this time, the student
marchers will be available for interview.

A large rally is planned in Omaha, Nebraska to mark
the march midpoint. The organizers state: “We are
organizing a march across the United States over the
summer of 2007 to raise awareness about the need for
peace and to unite people in a discussion of how we
can take action and solve problems nonviolently.”

Local Not in Our Name activists have been working with
marchers to publicize their actions, as well as to
help hook them up with peace and justice groups along
their route. The local Bay Area anti-war community
upholds these courageous young people, and anticipates
their stories as they cross the entire United States
on foot.
