Oakland Critical Mass rolled down Telegraph, visiting the Art Murmur, encountering a scene where evidently a bicyclist was struck by a motorist along the way. Later, in West Oakland, the group was hassled briefly by a police officer who then left them alone.

Although the ride had already traversed many miles over a period of more than 2.5 hours, a strong group in good spirits continued to demonstrate.

Shouts of "Walking is SEXY," "Stop Driving Cars," and "Stop Global Climate Change" bellowed through the streets to the gentle jingling of bike bells and the clickety-whirrr of bicycling together.

Costumes included a bike banana and a glittery cowgirl; signs included the ubiquitous STOP IGNORING GLOBAL WARMING. Jerry Brown was called on to ride at the old Sears Building.

The entire ride was invited to a party by one participant, to celebrate his 10th anniversary of being CARFREE, tonight! He's providing tons of pizza dough and 10 casks of home-brewed beverages, and asks only that people bring their favorite pizza toppings. Sorry, you had to be there to get the address...

This video is taken from a PDA phone, so the audio and picture quality are rather inadequate. Additional higher quality video will be posted at a later date. The Oakland Ride and its new sisters in Emeryville and Walnut Creek are non-stop adventures on wheels, raising awareness of the need to change our fuelish ways as spaceship earth heads for a terrible collision with exponentially increasing suffering and collapse at the hands of short-sighted irresponsible practices. The rides convey the message to realize that bikes exist, are viable transportation, and deserve to be embraced, rather than suppressed.
