Community Garden Bike Tour: Where Do Organic Veggies Come From?
After surveying, smelling, and tasting the bounty of local organic farms at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market, we'll pedal through the streets towards three SF community gardens ending at the lovely Garden for the Environment (GFE) at 7th Ave. and Lawton. We'll arrive at the GFE in time for a short lecture on composting, chock full of the info you need to produce the "black gold" that is the basis of healthy soil for growing veggies, all the while saving money and preventing organic waste from ending up in the landfill. After that, it's time to enjoy the peace of the Garden. This joint project of the Garden for the Environment, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and SFGRO is FREE. Pre-registration is requested. Call the GFE at 415.731.5627 or email:info [at] gardenfortheenvironment.org to pre-register or for more information.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eve/321905040.html
Join us at Lupin Lodge, a beautiful clothing optional resort in the Santa Cruz mountains, for World Naked Gardening Day. Have you ever wanted to garden wearing only a T-shirt, your sneakers, or just a smile? Then join us in our restaurant for a Cinco de Mayo dance, which starts at 8:00 PM. All this is free of charge and is our thank you for helping us. Cinco de Mayo Festival 5/5/2007 Dolores Park 11am- 5pm Dolores @ 18th/20th St.
Featuring music, dance, arts and crafts, children’s activities, more

Public Display of Affection Sat May 5th, 1-4 pm
Dolores Park, on the hill below the playground- look for the green and pink group
Continuing the annual tradition of an uplifting, sexy, public, social art project for May Day (Beltane, Spring, etc.), you are invited to come make a Public Display of Affection. Artist/participants will be meeting on the hill on the south side of Dolores Park, dressing with at least one prominent item of clothing/costume in pink and/or green (pink for sweetness and blushes, green for the heart chakra and Spring) and asked to bring a blanket. Signs with slogans such as "I am here to hug you", "cuddle whore", or "free kisses" or bite-sized snacks are also welcome. Participant/Artists will be hugging, petting, hand-holding, cuddling and kissing, to each individual's comfort level and with polite verbal consent, whomever wants to come play. Respect for each other's boundaries is crucial. We will be holding a space for physical affection in a public place and making a colorful and playful tribute to get our basic needs for touch, community interaction and acceptance, and open intimacy and sweetness, met. No nudity required or predatory or aggressive behavior tolerated, this is all about comfort, play and sharing. The event will be documented on film, feel free to wear a mask or ask not to be photographed. We may get ice cream after.
What to bring:
yourself!
people you like to share affection with
fun/sexy pink and/or green clothing
cute inviting signs about what you want to share with people
blankets
yummy snacks/water
and maybe some bubbles, or an instrument to play
nothing required, just suggestions, come join us!

5/5 2pm Cinco de Playa Day:Ocean Beach Cleanup details
Hello beach lovers!
Next Saturday, May 5th, Burners without Borders, DPW and others will gather
for our monthly Ocean Beach Cleanup event. Though we usually do so on the
1st Sunday of the month, the 1st Saturday just so happens to be nationwide
Cinco de Playa day. People near and far will gather to clean up a beach
front, lake front, river front, or any front of a body of water. We have
events occurring from Coney Island to Chicago to San Francisco and I think
even one in Europe! Hence the 5th of May will be our cleanup fiesta for the
month. We will gather at 2pm near stairwell 20, by the "Fire Bloom". It is
a steel fire pit resembling a flower. Look for the orange, red, and yellow
fire flag. While we usually bring along some bagels and schmear, that is
just not festive enough for Cinco de Mayo...ahem...Playa, so we propose a
pot luck! Bring out some goodies to celebrate such a wonderful day of
nationwide, indeed worldwide, efforts! And at the end, we will light up the
bloom. I'll bet you can smell the guacamole and salsa now!...The
smores!...The sweat and ash! Whoa, I'm getting dizzy from the excitement..
Please remember that Ocean Beach does not allow alcohol. We do not condone
or provide it, but if you decide to bring it anyway, keep it on the DL and
you're on your own with the authorities. Please leave our group's name out
of it and please don't make us look bad after all of our efforts! Remember
to bring sunscreen, work gloves and layers for the varying beach temps and
wind. We'll have some water on hand but if you prefer the bottled stuff,
you should bring your own.
I look forward to a wonderful day with you! Please spread the word!
Much gratitude, -Austintatious

FILM May 10: 7pm Loss of Liberty - How to help survivors of Israel's attack on the US
On June 8, 1967, the Israeli Air Force attacked and almost sank the USS Liberty. 34 American sailors lost their lives and 174 were wounded. That was also the date the cover-up began, and the survivors need help even now to gain the recognition and rights that have been denied to them.
Please attend a showing of "Loss of the Liberty" and learn what we can do to support the survivors in their struggle for their rights in the U.S. armed forces and in the public discourse. We hope to have one of the survivors present to lead a discussion.

GUN CONTROL WORKS ask the experts: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot

"Suppose one little old lady in ten carries a gun. Suppose that one in ten of those, if attacked by a mugger, succeeds in killing the mugger instead of being killed by him -- or shooting herself in the foot. On average, the mugger is much more likely to win the encounter than the little old lady. But -- also on average -- every hundred muggings produces one dead mugger. At those odds, mugging is an unprofitable business -- not many little old ladies carry enough money to justify one chance in a hundred of being killed getting it. The number of muggers declines drastically, not because they have all been killed but because they have, rationally, sought safer professions."

Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Rep. Elbridge Gerry

"... but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to
form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the
liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little
if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand
ready to defend their rights..."
-- Alexander Hamilton
(1757-1804)
Source: Federalist, No. 29
http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote_blog/Alexander.Hamilton.Quote.B32F

"The highest number to which a standing army can be carried
in any country does not exceed one hundredth part of the souls,
or one twenty-fifth part of the number able to bear arms.
This portion would not yield, in the United States,
an army of more than twenty-five or thirty thousand men.
To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near
half a million citizens with arms in their hands,
officered by men chosen from among themselves,
fighting for their common liberties and united and conducted
by governments possessing their affections and confidence.
It may well be doubted whether a militia thus circumstanced
could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops.
Besides the advantage of being armed, it forms a barrier
against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable
than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.
The governments of Europe are afraid to trust the people with arms.
If they did, the people would surely shake off the yoke of tyranny,
as America did. Let us not insult the free and gallant citizens
of America with the suspicion that they would be less able to defend
the rights of which they would be in actual possession than
the debased subjects of arbitrary power would be to rescue
theirs from the hands of their oppressors."
-- James Madison
(1751-1836), Father of the Constitution for the USA, 4th US President
http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote_blog/James.Madison.Quote.C88A

"What, Sir, is the use of a militia?
It is to prevent the establishment
of a standing army, the bane of liberty. ...
Whenever Governments mean to invade
the rights and liberties of the people,
they always attempt to destroy the militia,
in order to raise an army upon their ruins."
