There are too many corporations

by Don Francisco
Corporation need to be stopped
To whom it may concern:
I have recently taken a class that talk about Globalizations. This class has really opened my eyes on how corporations work. I never knew how much time these corporations spend on planning out what next country they are going to exploit. Come on, we all know that these corporations have to be strategic or else they wouldn't be making such a high profit on creating companies over seas. The sad thing that has came to mind is that people don't really know how much trouble these corporations go through just to make an extra penny. For instance, the Nike Company across seas have their laborers work down to the millisecond. When I found that out on the movie “The Corporation”, I was amazed that people would put that much work into something to make more money rather than to help out others. The worker alone is probably getting real poor wages and the product that is sold is probably more than half a days pay for the worker.
I had to do a research paper for this class and I focused on Maquiladoras(sweat shops in Mexico). I was actually to find out that a lot of these Maquiladoras that go into Mexico are usually companies that got banned from the US because of environmental issues and labor laws. A lot of these Maquiladoras are very unsafe for people to be working there and the only reason that the US goes to other countries is because they know that the labor laws and environmental laws are not really implemented in poor countries. How can a country do that knowing what the outcome of their actions are going to be? I thought this country was the land of opportunities and land of the free. What kind of message is this country is trying to give? On top of that these corporations have no really fault because they just blame the head person whom is ever running the company at the other country. I think it’s funny how fast the US easily blames the country for not implementing labor laws and environmental laws as well.
Foreign policies are another thing that helps out these corporations get away with murder. One foreign policy that I read some articles about is The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This policy basically gave the US the right to do what ever they wanted to do with their companies in Mexico. It was specifically made so there wouldn’t be any labor law liability, health liability and environmental liability. The thing about this policy was that Canada’s Prime Minister, Mexico’s President and the US President George H.W. Bush meet privately to talk about it. The agreement was signed by George through some fast tracking signing process the president has. One can say that he had another agenda for NAFTA and knew exactly what it would open up from him, along for other corporations. A lot of the time this happens with out the consent of people. I feel that we all should make more of an effort to look out for policies like these or other agreements that affect other countries. We have the power to make a stand and stop all this madness that these US corporations bring to other country. All it takes is a little time to look at the news or even look for US conspiracies on the web.
