Green House: Find Out How to Green the Burn and the World
Beach House: Inaugurate the New Ocean Beach Burn Platforms
Saturday April 14, 11AM to 4PM
Burning Man Headquarters – 1900 3rd St. @ 16th, SF
Then off to Ocean Beach for the 5PM Fire
Free, of course! Leave no trace.
In celebration of this year’s theme “the Green Man”, our annual Burning Man Open House and Volunteer Recruitment Day will feature a major Green House theme to help you green your burn!
As in prior years, this is your chance to meet the coordinators of our City, and learn how you can become one of the 3,000+ volunteers that create it. This year, we’re adding a complete green fair, with eco-fashion show, alternative energy demonstrations and presentations, a trashion workshop, solar cooking, green art, and a whole lot more! Even our annual pot luck and BBQ social will be earth-friendly. It all began at the beach, so after the event, we’ll all head to Ocean Beach to fire up the new burn platforms!!
Plan to spend the entire day at BMHQ, because like the playa, there will be a lot going on! Here’s just a sampling:
11AM-12PM
How to be a green burner - eco-workshops, presentations, and demonstrations on the solar powered stage plus green vehicles, eco-carnival, solar ovens, biodiesel distillation, grey water works, green art and the Solar Death Ray 2000!
12-3PM
Volunteer resource tables open – meet the volunteer coordinators from over 20 departments that organize our creative chaos into our city. Ask them anything, like how their department is going green. From Greeters to Artery to DPW to Rangers to Playa Info to DMV to the Geek Squad, we fuel our city on participation. WE need YOU to be part of WE to make the dream real! You’ll never be the same…
Solar Stage - Biofuels presentations, Green Man Puppet Performance, Inconvenient Truth Talk, the Tri-clops Monstrosity Band, and more!
Green pot luck – eat lunch earth-friendly: BYO reusable or composting cups, plates, and utensils, along with organic food to share.
Ongoing green demonstrations indoors and out - Check out the Trashion Bee, the Friends of Black Rock, green lighting and videos, displays on how to be green, the National LNT traveling trainers – even a hydrogen-fueled rocket! Bring old sheets, socks, pants, sweaters, shirts and swatches to create a MOOP bag or playa outfit at the Bee.
3PM
Eco-fashion show – get your trashion on the stage, or be trashy paparazzi!!!
4PM
Leave no trace at BMHQ and cruise to the 5PM burn platform inauguration @ Ocean Beach to light something up! We’ve been trusted with this beach so treat it like the playa. Since the Park Service is running this show and even bringing the wood, please leave alcohol/glass behind and enjoy the fire!
April 14th is a day of climate change events across the country, so don't be a spectator - become a participant! It's a great way to meet everyone, become more connected to the Burning Man community, and preserve the planet. Why not start by leaving your car at home: BMHQ is served by the NEW SF Muni T-THIRD streetcar service, Mariposa Street stop. (scheduled to open April 7th - see http://www.sfmta.com)
To help with green RVs, trashion, eco-performances, demonstrations, other Green House resources or staging/logistics, please contact Karina [at] burningman.com. To volunteer for the Man, sign up now at

Simply put: alcohol and nudity are allowed on Baker Beach. Fire on Ocean Beach. Glass on neither.
Here are the NAZI rules that tend to prevent social assembly or public use of public lands:
http://www.nps.gov/goga/parkmgmt/firemanagement_currentfireinformation.htm
With such restrictions, the masses are not allowed to gather or organize. Heil Bush Crime Family!
Some rules protect the environment. Others, like limiting groups to 25 people, are fascist.
All NPS high officials now have to undergo Bush Regime political litmus tests to get hired, as of 2006.

That is the law on all federal lands, would you believe... 25 people! Unless you pay $ FASCISM

Calling all Plug-ins, Hybrids, Biodiesels, Bikes & Feet! Step It Up SF07:Lighten Up Your Ride is a day of climate action and info focused on reducing carbon emissions from transportation. Lighten Up Your Ride is one of more than 800 events around the country supporting a national call on Congress to reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050, through the Step It Up 2007 campaign.
Working Assets and Mainstreet Moms are hosting the San Francisco event, which includes an optional parade north on 101 to circle the Hummer dealership in San Rafael. The event is part car rally, part expo, and part action fair, featuring a demo of 100% electric cars, plug-in hybrids, diesel buses, and news from the bike coalitions. We will educate attendees on how to reduce their carbon footprints, and provide on-site letter-writing actions supporting 80% carbon emissions reductions by 2050.
We want car owners to join us and share the extraordinary technology that goes into supporting carbon reduction vehicles. Whether you have a biodiesel car and story to share, or you have a guzzler but want to know what's next, this gathering is for you. The no carbon foot print bicyclists from across the city will also be joining us to show their support for reducing carbon.
At the event, local environmental groups and other organizations will have information about their organizations and the work they are doing to help fight climate change.
The message of April 14th to Congress is that we are doing our part to reduce carbon emissions. Now it is your turn.
Action
Lighten Up Your Ride invites all attendees to join the 2pm rally heading north up 101 to surround the Hummer dealership in San Rafael with clean cars, and a picket line of polar bears. Local mountaineering organization, the Mazamas, is hosting a “Melting Mountains Conference” on April 14, 2007 at its new facility, the Mazama Mountaineering Center. The conference will bring together a panel of research experts, environmental writers, agencies and local politicians to discuss the impact of global warming on mountains, the environment and our community.

How the Food Industry Undermines Our Health and How to Fight Back.
Her book explains why we cannot trust food corporations to
do the right thing; describes the local battles of going up against
the powerful food lobbies; and offers a comprehensive guide to the
public relations and lobbying tactics that food companies employ to
trick the American public. Endorsements for the book as a "must to
read" are: Marion Nestle, nutrition professor & author Food Politics
& What to Eat. "I am requiring all of my public health nutrition
students to read this book." Frances Moore Lappe, author of Diet for
a Small Planet & Democracy's Edge says: "Simon rips the mask off the
food industry. John Stauber, author of Mad Cow USA, Toxic Sludge is
Good for You, & Trust Us, We're Experts says: "Simon exposes the
corporate greed and propaganda controlling our media and politics on
critical issues of health and sustainability. Library Journal:
Starred Review: "This book is recommended for public and academic

Vegan Sunday Brunch in SF
Even in this herbivorous bastion of a city, weekend vegan brunch options are scant. San Francisco now has at least one new generous offering. Starting, Sunday, April 15, Peña Pachamama (1630 Powell Street, between Union and Green) will be hosting a vegan Sunday brunch, to be prepared and served in the style of Dim Sum. Vegetables grains beans fruits nuts oils -- these are stars of the event. The last three Sundays in April shall be the trial run -- with many more to follow with sufficient demand.
The food is fresh, organic, spicy, bold, delicious and simple. It is peasant food -- of, by, and for the people -- like Grandma would make, if Grandma was vegan. How do I know so much about this food, if vegan brunches don't begin at the Peña until April 15th? I am the chef.

Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, a revolution in which a socialist government gains power, this films presents a dystopia in which the issues of many progressive groups - minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists - are ostensibly dealt with by the government, and yet there are still problems with jobs, with gender issues, with governmental preference and violence. In New York City, in this future time, a group of women decide to organize and mobilize, to take the revolution farther than any man - and many women - ever imagined in their lifetimes. panel discussion on ranked- choice
(also known as instant run-off) voting that is being hosted
by the Commonwealth Club in downtown San Francisco on Thursday,
April 19, at 12 noon.

The title of the forum is "Ranked-Choice Voting: Will California
Follow the Bay Area’s Lead?" It will be an important panel
discussion about the future of IRV in California, including
election administration and politics, and more.

In 2004, San Francisco voters started using ranked-choice voting
(RCV) in city and county elections. In addition to assuring that
winning candidates are elected with over 50 percent of the vote,
the new voting system has increased voter turn-out and eliminated
the need for -- and expense of -- run-off elections.

Now, Alameda and Santa Clara counties are developing RCV systems
for their 2008 elections. As these San Francisco Bay Area counties
lead the way in changing how their citizens vote, what are the
implications for adoption of this voting method state-wide?
Additionally, what steps would ease the process of implementing RCV
for other jurisdictions?

I urge you to attend and participate, lending your thoughts and
opinions to this important subject. The forum is free and includes
lunch, but you must RSVP at http://www.voicesofreform.org. See below for
details about panelists, address (accessible by Muni, at 2nd and
Market), and more.
Please forward this notice to your own email lists. I hope to see
you there. Steven Hill

Kinetic Steam Works: Pre Coachella Steam-up
Oakland, April 21, 2007, 3-7pm
Kinetic Steam Works will host dynamic demonstrations
of steam power with a collection of repurposed vintage
equipment driving interactive sculptures just days
before their appearance at the Coachella festival in
the Palm Springs desert.
An Auxiliary boiler, assorted mill engines, and a 1920
Case traction engine are the force behind a collection
of awe-inspiring and personally engaging sculptures
including a hand fabricated working carousel by Jamie
Vaida, brass instruments plumbed with falling water
and rising steam by Stephen Rademaker, a towering 22'
tall fire and waterfall by Orion Fredricks, and a live
performance by spygirl and Sean Orlando. "The Dingus
Smashing Show" uses a 1920's ironworker to crush
anything placed between its gears, a gross example of
juvenile delinquency at it's most entertaining.
The Pre Coachella Steam-up happens Saturday, April
21st at NIMBY warehouse, 1649 28th street Oakland.
Kinetic Steam Works is a bay area arts collective of
engineers, artists and steam enthusiasts. We marry
kinetic art and industry by re assigning mechanical
relics of the pre-petroleum era with steampunk
creativity.
Don't miss this rare chance to see us all steamed up.

Sat 04/28 10:30am–12:00pm spell "IMPEACH" with human bodies on OCEAN BEACH
OCEAN BEACH: This time we're shooting for 2,000 people (the Park Service has
all-but-sworn that they'll issue the permit, but it is not yet in my hand). This
time we'll probably spell out "IMPEACH..." in 100-foot letters followed by
"NOW!" in slightly larger letters: "IMPEACH... NOW!"
Our exact message will depend on how big a crowd we've got registered. In
January, 90% of the attendees registered during the ten days prior to the event.
So, am I worried that right now, three weeks ahead of the event, we've only got
278 people registered? No, I'm not worried -- half the time I'm absolutely
terrified. I've got a helicopter reserved, a photographer lined up, volunteers
willing to help outline the letters that morning (this thing's going to stretch
600-700 feet across the beach!), and I spend every night dreaming my old
wrestling-an-octopus-underwater dream. In my better moments, however, I do feel
surrendered to whatever outcome transpires...
But no matter how many people turn out that day, I intend a PEACEFUL event!
While the first Beach Impeach was indeed a powerful statement, most of the
attendees (including me) felt that it was the most peaceful and gentle protest
they'd ever attended -- in fact, it was one of the more peaceful and enjoyable
days of many of our lives. No speeches, no harangues (no one needs convincing
any more), just 1,000 citizens (and dogs) quietly lying down together to draw a
line in the sand and send a message to the world. And I intend that April 28 be
the same way. I've received numerous suggestions that this time around we have
speakers, or that we spell out a stronger statement (several votes for the
f-word), but that's not the deal. Expect laughter, camaraderie, the woosh of the
ocean, and for a while the chatter of a helicopter or two or three...? (The
weather in January was perfect -- windless, cloudless, sixty-five degrees -- and
while we of course must take whatever weather we get this time around, it sure
would be nice to have a repeat.) To register please visit:

For information, visit regularly - http://www.HowWeird.org
It's Weirdo de Mayo, and the beginning of the outdoor events season! For
the last time, Howard Street will be transformed into a festival for
peace. Due to its overwhelming success, the How Weird Street Faire is
being forced to relocate. So we're going out in style... showcasing some
of the most creative art, music, and performances in America!
Music provided by CCC, Sunset, Tantra, Symbiosis, Earthdance, Lowpro
Lounge, Dub Beautiful, False Profit, and Music Without Borders (Get
Freaky, Muti Music, and Raindance)! Art and decor by Anon Salon.
The How Weird Street Faire is centered at Howard and 12th Street, in the
SOMA district of San Francisco. At that intersection, there will be a
mandala made of grass – the world's only urban crop circle – where
festival-goers can relax, connect, and learn about fostering peace.
Please bike or take public transportation to the faire. There will be a
bike valet service provided by the SF Bicycle Coalition. The faire is
located two blocks south of Market Street & Van Ness.
Entrance at 12th Street and South Van Ness, San Francisco, Earth.
Requested donation of $5 in costume, or $10 without (kids free).
All ages welcome. Colorful costumes strongly encouraged!
All proceeds benefit two Bay Area non-profit organizations.

Be A Part of How Weird's last year on Howard St!
We are currently seeking volunteers for setup/strike, greeting, and
promotion! Variety of shifts available.
Please contact me at weird.volunteer at gmail.com
Youll also recieve free food/drinks and free pass to post party events.
