Camp Counselors Needed in Rural Jamaica
In an attempt to strengthen basic education as well expand knowledge in the arts and interpersonal skills Blue Mountain Project is hosting it's third annual Fun Camp. Counselors are sought to teach, encourage and provide a positive role model to the children.
Summer is right around the corner and the Blue Mountain Project is gearing up for their annual free summer programs, Fun Camp and the Back2School event. Fun Camp will operate from July 23rd -August 17th and will end with the huge Back2School celebration on August 18th. Back2School eases the financial burden of local families by distributing backpacks of school and offering free health check ups.
Fun Camp is a unique opportunity for educators to work in poverty stricken rural Jamaica and experience an adventure of a life time. Fun Camp provides a constructive way for children to pass their summer days and reinforces basic reading, writing and math skills. The curriculum for this program is based on the theme of “Express Yourself” and will explore art, music, dance and personal safety issues. Counselors must possess the willingness to work with children aged 3-12, be a great role model and like to be outdoors.
For those that unable to venture up the mountains winding dirt roads can still help make these important events happen by donating much needed supplies and cash. Monetary donations are needed to serve a hot lunch to the children. In-kind donations of school supplies and backpacks are being accepted by board members through out the US and at the Jamaican office in Hagley Gap. Please visit http://www.bluemountainproject.org to learn more about how to assist in making these programs successful.
