Defend Community Gardens in SF!!

by Fulton and Stanyan Gardeners (stanyanstreetgarden [at] gmail.com)
For more than three months people in the neighborhood around Fulton and Stanyan in the Inner Richmond have been gardening a piece of land that has sat vacant for decades. Now the landlord wants the garden destroyed.

The owner, Aileen ODriscoll, a landlord with a history of wrongfully evicting her tenants, would prefer the garden return to its previous state--a vacant lot full of weeds and bits of trash. She refuses to talk to any of the gardeners or local groups who have become involved in the garden and simply demands the removal of the plants immediately. The deadline is tomorrow, Friday, March 30.

We want her to know this garden has broad support, from people in the neighborhood and beyond. Join us tomorrow morning at 9:00 am when we expect people to show up to clear it out so we can make it known that we want a beautiful garden, not a vacant lot, at the corner of Fulton and Stanyon.

You can also call the property management company, Citywide Property Management, in charge of maintaining the lot and tell them you support the garden. They can be reached at 552.7300. Ask for Matt King.

This is not just about one garden--it's about taking control of our neighborhoods and meeting out neighbors, about making this city a better and healthier place to live. It's about living in this city, not just in our crowded apartments. Help defend street life and urban gardening!

We hope to see you tomorrow morning! Thanks for the support. And please feel free to bring along any and everyone you think might be interested in helping.

Thanks!
