Urgent Alert: Call House Rules Committee NOW to Allow Debate on Lee Amendment!
I strongly urge you to call the House Rules Committee RIGHT NOW and tell them to allow a debate and vote on the Lee Amendment. The lives of thousands of Iraqis and Americans are at stake! Then please call Representative Doris Matsui (or whoever your Congressperson is) and urge them to allow the debate and vote!
Call the House Rules Committee NOW! 202-225-9091
They are considering whether to allow Barbara Lee's amendment to force a troop withdrawal to come to a vote tomorrow in the House.
Tell the Rules committee to allow a debate and vote on the Lee Amendment.
To reach Doris Matsui and other Members of Congress, call toll free (DC switchboard): 1-888-851-1879
Background:
Congresswomen Lee, Woolsey, and Waters will be filing the Lee Amendment with the House Rules Committee today and testifying in person to urge that it be made in order for debate and a vote when the FY07 Supplemental Appropriations Bill is taken up on the House floor tomorrow. Shorthand explanation of it:
· It provides for a fully-funded withdrawal of all U.S. troops and military contractors;
· $ in the bill could only be used only for continued protection of U.S. troops and contractors, pending and during their withdrawal; and
· For safe and complete withdrawal of all U.S. troops and military contractors by December 31, 2007.
· Does not prohibit use of funds to carry out diplomatic efforts or social and economic reconstruction activities in Iraq
It's getting more an more nasty in the House!
the Dem. Leadership is desperate to pass this bill -- they are twisting arms, bribing, threatening and generally being nasty. The Washington Post article below implies that Pelosi might take Barbara Lee off the House Appropriations committee in revenge for Lee's vote against the supplemental. Other reports are saying that Rep. Waters may lose her job on the "Whip" team becase she is opposing the bill. We won't stand for that nonsense -- we'll keep you posted as things develop.
