3/18/07 Bike Ride Against War in San Francisco

We met at Dolores park at 11:00. It was a beutiful sunny day and we waited for an hour to gather people. We headed out at 12:00. The ride wove through the downtown, fisherman's Warf, Chinatown and South of Market neighborhoods. People seemed in good spirits on the ride and people in cars or on the street were positive if they commented. We didn't have many good signs so many may not have known why we were protesting but we had bright flags and we had fun. About sixty cyclists joined the ride. Near the end we passed people going to the ANSWER March. At some point I joined the march and took some photos there.

At this point we saw many people heading to the ANSWER march. I guess i still can not understand people's fixation on patrotism and the US flag. It is a flag that has flown over many massacres and does so now in Iraq.

Care about people-Forget about flags.

One lone counter protestor. I think she was just there to show how little support the war or Bush has at this point.

A group of six people in wheelchairs gathered in the street at the end of the march. In a bizarre moment, police on motorcycles surrounded them and beeped loudly. The people were deaf and facing away and werer not aware that they were the focus of police atention at first. It was rather silly that it took eight motorcycle police to move a few pwoplw in wheelchairs.

thanks for the great photo journalism. I was reading about people not know what was going on due to lack of signs. Consider adding a microphone to the sound system, or a wireless mic to pass around. We do this is LA every first Sunday of the month with the SpokeN'Dissent ride.
It's real powerful
