Ralph Nader Joins Congressional Watchdog Group at San Francisco Federal Building
Today Ralph Nader joined a newly formed citizen advocacy group, Pelosi Watch, at the foot of the Phillip Burton Federal Building where Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi keeps her district office.
His message: Force Nancy Pelosi to listen to her constituents at home.

San Francisco
Between making an appearance on KTVU Channel 2 news and making an address before San Francisco's Commonwealth Club, Ralph Nader briefly joined Pelosi Watch at the foot of the city's Federal Building where Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi keeps her district office.
The purpose of Nader's appearance was to encourage the newly formed local Congressional watchdog group "Pelosi Watch" to keep pressure on Pelosi to heed her constituents' demands: to stop funding an illegal and heinous war, to impeach Bush for treasonous crimes, and to bring America's troops home now.
San Franciscans have been clear on these issues, but thus far Pelosi has responded by speaking vaguely and acting contrary to our wishes. She has increased spending on war, she has declared that "impeachment is off the table," and she has endorsed Bush's plans to send more troops to a conflict region that is becoming more unstable and unmanageable with each passing day.
Here are some photos, mp3 recordings, and 1 short video clip from today's event.

I was curious why I saw nothing on the evening news about this event despite the presence of KTVU 2, and KRON 4. Someone explained to me today that most of the journalists I saw were present to capture news about litigants in the BALCO steroids scandal, not Ralph Nader and Pelosi Watch.
Today, the San Francisco Chronicle mentioned Nader's visit to San Francisco and that Nader was intending to help Pelosi Watch challenge Democrat's support for the Iraq war-- but it did not cover this event-- although a Chronicle photographer was present at this event.
Further, the article by Carla Marinucci gratuitively reiterated the notion that Nader's candidacy in 2000 had more influence over the outcome of that U.S. presidential election than actually was the case. Saying little about the issues at stake, the article "Nader considers '08 run for president" punches all the buttons to insure that Nader can be blamed again if the likely future Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign flounders.

You have to also remember that they are the corporate media, so if the speakers didn't say anything that could be used in an anti-Nader or anti-progressive way, there was no story.
Nancy Pelosi and her war party, the Democrats, will not cut funding of this latest imperialist adventure, another blood for oil war. See World Socialist Website, 2/17/07 at:

As to Nancy Pelosi's constituents, those who vote Democrat need to learn to stop giving her and the rest of the leading Democrats 80% of San Francisco's vote and start voting their conscience. There are only 2 peace parties on the ballot: the socialist Peace & Freedom Party at http://www.peaceandfreedom.org and the Green Party. As the P&F website states: "Pelosi and the Democrats: Put Up or Shut Up!"
The press of the capitalist class, in particular, the Chronicle, now has so little news that you could just skim it online and then go to serious news websites, such as this website, the World Socialist Website, and many others; we all have our favorites. As the WS article states above, the twin parties of capitalism, war, the death penalty, promotion of the US military base called Israel, ad nauseum, have nothing to offer the overwhelming majority of us. The same is true of their worthless newspapers.
As to Ralph Nader, I am glad he intends to run for president but (1) if the socialist Peace & Freedom Party has a candidate, and they usually do, I will vote for her/him; and (2) Ralph's star lost its luster with me when he defended religion and was for keeping a brain dead woman alive a few years ago. He joined with Jesse Jackson and the Catholic Church in this reactionary, anti-science position. I am sure, of course, he will do a good job of exposing the pro-war politics of Hillary Clinton and his witty speeches are always fun to hear. As he says, the Democrats took votes from him in the last 2 elections, and that is the purpose of the Democrats: to keep the Reds and Greens out of office. There is no other reason for 2 capitalist parties perpetrating the same horrifying reactionary agenda. We must keep reminding everyone, including the news staff at KPFA, that it was the Republican election fraud in 2000 and 2004 that cost the Democrats the presidency, along with the Democrats' refusal to fight the election fraud. Ralph Nader, the Green Party, and all the socialist parties on the ballot in many states (the Greens are on the ballot in at least 45 states) had nothing to do with the Democrats' not taking the office of the presidency, which they actually won in 2000 and 2004.
It is a ringing indictment of the bankruptcy of politics in this society that 2 years before a presidential election, the campaigns of the twin parties of capitalism are in full swing. The money being wasted on their circus could feed, house, clothe, educate and provide medical care for thousands of people.
