Israel-Palestine:
Issues in Ethnic and Communal Violence

Magid Shihade

in conversation

The phenomenon of communal and ethnic violence will be explored by Dr. Shihade, drawing on a case study from Israel-Palestine, and comparative examples from around the world. He will situate this discussion within colonial legacies organized by Western notions of modernity and racism.

Magid Shihade focuses his research on issues of ethnic and communal violence, nationalism, and colonialism in the modern Middle East. Dr. Shihade teaches on the Modern Middle East at Berkeley City College, and on 9/11 at the University of California at Berkeley. His articles have appeared in the Arab Studies Quarterly, and in Men of the Global South: A Reader edited by Adam Jones.

Introduced by Angana Chatterji for
The Social and Cultural Anthropology Program, California Institute of Integral Studies
