Haifa Street: Baghdad, Iraq Video CBS Would Not Broadcast
070130 Watch the Video CBS NEWS won't put on TV
This 2-minute video is really worth watching:
http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_video/main500251.shtml?id=2371456n
CBS news refused (under the executive editorship of Katie Couric!!) to broadcast it, even though it was a regular news report by CBS Senior Correspondent Lara Logan in Baghdad, describing and giving visuals of the vicious fighting on Haifa Street, the location of the fiercest current battle.
Watch it and see why: it presents the fighting there as sectarian battles, just like most reporting. But it has two added features: it presents visuals that make it clear that the Iraqi police are torturing and murdering civilians, and it finishes with a statement from an Iraqi asserting that the Americans are to blame.
The reporter Lara Logan, was infuriated by CBS' decision to place the video on the web site and not broadcast it. Here is here letter of protest, which she has begun to circulate publicly:

The story below only appeared on our CBS website and was not aired on CBS. It is a story that is largely being ignored, even though this is taking place every single day in central Baghdad, two blocks from where our office is located.
Our crew had to be pulled out because we got a call saying they were about to be killed, and on their way out, a civilian man was shot dead in front of them as they ran.
I would be very grateful if any of you have a chance to watch this story and pass the link on to as many people you know as possible. It should be seen. And people should know about this.
If anyone has time to send a comment to CBS – about the story – not about my request, then that would help highlight that people are interested and this is not too gruesome to air, but rather too important to ignore.
Many, many thanks.
