ART LOUNGE 2007: Calling artists, scientists and environmentalists!

ART LOUNGE 2007: Calling artists, scientists and environmentalists!
Join us for a reception at Burning Man HQ Friday, January 26th from 5-8pm
1900 3rd St, 2nd Floor (between 16th and Mariposa) San Francisco.

Purpose: To bring artists, scientists and eco-heros of various shapes and
sizes together in a social atmosphere with the Burning Man staff, to
honor their
contributions and inspire cross pollination in the year ahead as we
figure out exactly
what "Green Man" means to us!

Taking "green" into consideration means thinking about the effect each of
your decisions has on the environment and choosing the least harmful/most
beneficial option possible. Specific things to take into consideration
include materials being used, energy consumed, and waste produced. We
aren't
saying let's NOT burn art and we don't wish to dillute the intensity of the
creative expression at Burning Man. But we do want to inspire a sense of
ownership of the entire creative process from creation to destruction and
back in ways that inspire social change on and off the playa and
potentially
lead the way to new forms and concepts of art making.

Are you wondering how to power your art installation using alternative
energy?
Do you have knowledge of a new or green technology that might be of
interest
to artists?

Please join Burning Man staff and volunteers for a wine and cheese
reception
honoring artists, scientists, and members of our newly formed "Greening The
Burn Group" and let's see what conversations spark in the year ahead!
Members of the Art Dept and other Burning Man staff will also be on hand to
discuss the overall art process with you and see what's on your mind!

Please RSVP to special-events [at] burningman.com if you will attend.

Hope to see many of you there!

Jan 26-28 Free Three Day Transformational Seminar San Jose Convention Center
http://www.chrishoward.com/bts/?af=315191

---------------------------------------------------------

Christopher Howard is coming to
town to host a free NLP/Personal Transormation seminar
9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday
January 26, 2007 to January 28, 2007
at the San Jose Convention Center.
This is really a great opportunity....

So, I went to this amazing wonderful 3 day Seminar called "Breakthrough
to Success" about a year ago and had a profoundly transformational experience.
The seminar leader, Christopher Howard, uses NLP practices to take you through powerful
change work around a specific focus area of your choosing - either health, career, or
relationships. (I absolutely love NLP and he is such a master, really!) It is an opportunity
to work with a master trainer for three days and put all your energy and attention on an
area of your life where you would like more fulfillment and success. The rewards that are
possible from taking the time to do something like this for yourself are immeasurable.

I attended the seminar a year ago and choose to focus on my career. As a result of the
workshop I have gained inspiring new clarity around my future career direction and how
my to pattern my current experiences to be congruent with that. The workshop opened
doors to more then I had before thought possible. I set strategies for achieving my
desired outcomes and have already taken action on putting some of them into place.

I see this course as valuable to you as a forum for self growth and achieving
greater personal fulfillment, as a place to learn new skills and tools for working with
colleagues, family, friends, and also as an opportunity to attend a super high quality
experiential presentation and apply the learnings you gather from the experience to times
in your future when you may be constructing workshops and training sessions.

Finally I see it as a opportunity for our community to come together and share a high
quality personal development experience, and to gain some new distinctions around how
to LIVE YOUR LIFE AS ART. I will be attending the next workshop (my third time) and my
hope is that a whole bunch of you will be joining me too!

Here is the website to sign up.
http://www.chrishoward.com/bts/?af=315191

There were about 15 of us last time, we sat together and went to lunch together and
connected at the breaks, it was a great experience.

There are opportunities to enroll in additional courses - but no high pressure sales or
feelings of obligation to sign up for anything.... really. This is a valuable and FREE
experience...

I hope to see a bunch of you there.

Jillian

Rally and March to End the War in Iraq
Powell and Market Streets
San Francisco
Over 3,000 dead American soldiers, hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis. It's time to put a stop to the war machine. Millions of people voted to get the Republicans out and end the war, but we can't leave it up to the Democrats to do the only reasonable thing: BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME NOW FROM IRAQ!

President Bush just announced his intent to escalate the number of troops in Iraq by over 20,000 more troops.

It's time to get the anti-war movement back in the streets! On January 27, hundreds of thousands of people will march in Washington, DC to demand an end to the war.

We're bringing the same message to the streets of San Francisco. Make your own signs and banners and march with your friends, family, co-workers, class-mates, church, union or organization. Join us to show Bush and the new Democratic Congress that the anti-war movement is back.

Sat Jan 27 Noon
What should you do when you're on fire? Most people realize being on fire is an emergency that needs to be dealt with immediately! Stop, drop and roll! What should you do when your government is out of control, run by a messianic nincompoop and a gaggle of feckless bureaucrats? While the personal danger may not be as immediate, the long term dangers of this political conflagration are no less grave. If you think they don't concern you, you're probably not paying attention.

This Saturday, January 27, United for Peace and Justice is organizing a demonstration in Washington, D.C. (There are also hundreds across the US, including one planned for San Franciso, as well.)

It's not just to protest Bush's decision to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq. That's bad enough. But there's also the matter of Iran. Think W's not foolhardy enough to attack Iran? Well, take a look at the evidence assembled by physicist Jorge Hirsch. It doesn't look good. In particular, follow some of the links under the "Preparations for the Iran attack" header. Can we stop this one before it starts?

Rally and March to End the War in Iraq
Saturday, January 27th 2007 12pm
San Francisco, CA USA

Bring the Troops Home Now from Iraq! Stop Racist Attacks on Arabs and Muslims! End the Occupation of Palestine!

Almost 3,000 dead American soldiers, at least 650,000 dead Iraqis. It's time to put a stop to the war machine. Millions of people voted to get the Republicans out and end the war, but we can't leave it up to the Democrats to do the only reasonable thing: BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME NOW FROM IRAQ!

The Iraq Study Group offers more of the same, or even an escalation of troops in Iraq. President Bush is vowing to continue the war and the danger grows every day that the US or Israel will attack Lebanon again or launch another "pre-emptive strike" against Syria or Iran.

It's time to get the anti-war movement back in the streets! On January 27, hundreds of thousands of people will march in DC to demand an end to the war. Let's show Bush and the new Democratic Congress that the anti-war movement is back.

Make your own signs and banners and march with your friends, family, co-workers, class-mates, church, union or organization.

Dear Loved Ones
(please feel free to forward to friends and family),

I'm inviting you to join me! I haven't been out on the streets since the day we began the bombing in Iraq (when I spent 12 hrs. in jail!) but the time seems to have come when a visible show of support might be in order. I've been following the recent debates in the House and the Senate, which for the first time are openly opposing the Iraqi war, and I am at last hopeful and so proud of the many who are standing up, including our very own Nancy Pelosi! There's a voice inside saying urgently "We need to consolidate our creative efforts and unite in coming up with solutions to protect and heal our beautiful planet - now! - and address the much bigger issue of Global Warming (thank you Al Gore! and so many others).

Rally and March to End the War in Iraq
Saturday, January 27th 2007, 12 pm, Powell and Market
San Francisco, CA USA

(The following are excerpts copied from the internet re this Sat. (the colors and parenthetical comments are mine!):

United for Peace and Justice has called for a massive mobilization in Washington, DC for Saturday, January 27th. There will also be a San Francisco Rally and March to End the War in Iraq that day - people will gather at 12 pm at Powell and Market. In Washington, DC, protesters plan to assemble on the east end of the National Mall, the end closest to the Capitol, from 11am to 1pm, and to march around the Capitol until 4pm. UFPJ has applied for march and rally permits.

Dancing in the Streets . . .

It's time to (go dancing in the streets!)! On January 27, hundreds of thousands of people will march (and party) in DC to demand (ask for) an end to the war. Let's show Bush and the new Democratic Congress that (we are alive and well and committed).

UFPJ wants to have a huge turnout in order to send the strongest, clearest message to the new Congress, with the goal of at least one person from each of the 435 Congressional districts marching on January 27th to "help represent the truly nationwide peace majority." UFPJ also wants people to sign up to be local coordinators for people travelling from their areas to Washington, DC. The website includes links to ride and housing boards.

UFPJ has also planned a Lobby Day: On Monday, January 29th, volunteers and staff will meet with members of Congress and/or their aides. A training for the Lobby Day will be held on Sunday, January 28th.

IMPEACH FLASHMOB -- Sat, Jan 27, 11:50 a.m., Wash DC

Hi everyone... I am in DC... excited... ready to try to pull off tomorrow
(Saturday, Jan 27) what we did at Ocean Beach three weeks ago... However this
time it will be in George Bush's and everyone else's backyard... with the
Capitol Dome in the background... If you know anyone in DC this weekend, please
forward this to them... they won't want to miss this...

As always, thanks for you support!

brad

IMPEACH FLASHMOB -- SATURDAY, JAN 27, 11:50 a.m., National Mall, Washington DC

(Gather on sidewalk, Monument side of 14th Street, at the National Mall, by
11:50 a.m.)

On Saturday, Jan 6 -- just three weeks ago -- 1,000 people lay down on the beach
in San Francisco and with their bodies spelled out the message “IMPEACH!” in
100-foot letters. The story and photos (with the Golden Gate Bridge in the
background) went worldwide – front page of the Christian Science Monitor.

On Saturday, Jan 27, we are going to repeat the event here in Washington on the
National Mall at noon. Please come and be part of this historic event -- meet
at 11:50 a.m. just east of the Washington Monument – specifically, on the
sidewalk on the Monument side of 14th Street. A photographer at the top of the
Washington Monument will take a picture of 1,000 of us lying down in the grass,
spelling out “IMPEACH!” with the Capital Dome in the background. Please
come – bring anyone and everyone you can.

We need 1,000 people to fill the lettering, but can accommodate thousands more.
It will be a bang-bang affair –- no more than 15 minutes from start to finish.
If we pull this off, it will be huge (possibly NY Times, Washington Post,
etc…) and it will be historic. Don’t be late -- arrive by 11:50 a.m., look
for volunteers handing out flyers with directions, follow the flyer’s
directions and also the voice commands of the nearby volunteers. Stay off the
grass, keep to the sidewalk, until the ropes that outline the lettering are in
place. At 12 o’clock sharp, if all goes as planned, you will see a volunteer
in the middle of the crowd raise a green flag. Walk slowly please into the
lettering that you will see outlined in ropes and lie down (it’s a good idea,
but not necessary, to bring a small tarp or blanket to lie down on), and wait
until you see the red flag indicating that the photographers up in the Monument
have gotten what they need, and that the event is over.

Volunteers Needed - If you can volunteer to help out with this event, please
come to a meeting in the “Federal Room” at the Hotel Washington (515, 15th
Street@ Pennsylvania Ave.), 7-9 pm Friday night, Jan 26th. Or call Brad Newsham
at 415-305-8294.

THANK YOU! Please send this to anyone you know who is in Washington this
weekend...!
(Situation is set, but fluid. For current updates call 510-277-5241)

Make out for Environmental Justice this Sat! (pls fwd)

PG&E has recently launched a multi-million dollar greenwashing campaign throughout San Francisco. You may have seen their ads on the side of MUNI buses announcing what "GREEN IS..."

The campaign represents PG&E as "greening the city", but their campaign promises little and PG&E is far from green. They get less than 3% of their energy from solar and wind sources combined AND they have lobbied against incentives for installing solar panels in the recent past. Meanwhile, the alternative to PG&E, Community Choice Energy, promises to run San Francisco on 50% renewable energy sources – mostly solar and wind - within the next decade.

So... how does this relate to making out?

Well, as part of their "commitment" to greening this city, PG&E has installed solar panels to the rooftop of the LGBT Center on Market; and they are having a press conference and green fair to let the world know about it!

So... a group of conscientious queer and queer-friendly folks want to let that press know that we love the LGBT center, but are not too happy with PG&E's deceptive campaign.... and we are going to do something about it!

Come help us make a scene outside the LGBT center this Saturday! Wear green, have fun, and get noticed (that's the point)!

What: PG&E CounterCampaign
When: This Saturday, January 27th 10:30am
Where: In front of the LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St, SF

Sun, 1/28 Ingrid Newkirk at Cody's Books SAN FRANCISCO, CA
http://upcoming.org/event/137345 4:30 PM 2 Stockton St

INGRID NEWKIRK introduces 50 AWESOME WAYS KIDS CAN HELP ANIMALS: Fun and Easy Ways to Be a Kind Kid. How do you roust today’s TV- and computer-dazed kids out of their comfy confines to get them busy making the world a better place? Just ask PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, who over the past two decades has transformed animal rights from an obscure social movement into all the rage among young people from Manhattan to Manila, and who knows the kids who realize that when it comes to animals, cruel is definitely not cool. Her book is packed with everything from why tropical fish weren’t meant to be room decorations to how to stand up to teachers who think they can make you dissect a grog and how to handle that guy down the street who kicks his dog – stuff kids can really sink their teeth into. Through PETA’s two offshoots, PETAKids and peta2, and their popular respective Web sites, Newkirk has hooked teens and preteens up with many of their favorite celebrities, who also happen to be very pro-animal. Kids, parents, teachers, and friends: come learn from a real expert! 4:30 PM at Cody’s Stockton Street, San Francisco
