Palo Alto Action Alert - Oppose Troop Escalation in Iraq!
Urgent Action Alert |
Bush Expected to Call for Iraq Troop Escalation Next Week 1. Call the White House and Congress to oppose any escalation of the war. Contact info below. 2. An Emergency Protest Demonstration will be held the day after the announcement of any escalation. Gather at the corner of El Camino and Embarcadero, Palo Alto, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, the day immediately following any Presidential speech announcing any troop increase for Iraq. Background: George Bush is expected to give a major policy address some time next week to outline his new strategy for Iraq. It is becoming increasingly clear that Bush is seriously considering sending more troops to Iraq. Although this action has been euphemistically dubbed a troop "surge" and it will be claimed that the troop increase is only "temporary," it is nothing less than an escalation of the war. And it would be a tragically insane decision. Action # 1: Contact the White House and your Representative and Senators to declare your staunch opposition to any troop increase for Iraq. Keep calling the White House--do it daily. Tell them, in your own words:
White House: Congressional Switchboard: 202-224-3121 Sen. Barbara Boxer Sen. Dianne Feinstein Rep. Anna Eshoo Rep. Tom Lantos Rep. Mike Honda Rep. Zoe Lofgren Action # 2: The day after any White House announcement of a troop increase, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center will organize an emergency "human billboard" protest demonstration at the intersection of El Camino and Embarcadero in Palo Alto. The protest will be held from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Bring signs and banners -- some sign-making material will be provided. Action # 3: Help spread the word! Please forward this message to your own email lists and the lists of any organizations to which you belong. Let's get the phone calls going and make sure the emergency demonstration, if we need to have one, is HUGE! Encourage your friends, family and co-workers to subscribe to PPJC's Email Alert list. Just have them send a blank email to subscribe@peaceandjustice.org |
