Advocate Focus: Njeri Sims

Njeri Sims, who recently developed EBAA’s new Foster Compassion
television commercial, has been an active member of the animal
rights community for the past two years. After being vegetarian
for almost half her life, she one day stumbled upon “Meet Your
Meet” at a Goldfinger show and decided to go vegan. She is
currently finishing up her last semester at the Academy of Art
University in San Francisco. She has recently discovered video
blogging, or vlogging, and uses her blog to help spread the
message about animal rights through video. Though she
specializes in film and video editing, she can often be found
behind the camera at a protest or two documenting the movement.
She has worked on several short films with many different
directors in the Bay Area. She was also recently a semi-finalist
in the, Film Your Issue (FYI) film contest for her film
entitled, “Animal Liberation”. When Njeri’s not videotaping a
protest, or editing for a great director, she enjoys taking
pictures, walking dogs, cooking, skateboarding (badly), and
sleeping, when she can find the time.

Boss Hog: America's top pork producer churns out a sea of waste

Smithfield Foods, the largest and most profitable pork processor
in the world, killed 27 million hogs last year. That's a number
worth considering. A slaughter-weight hog is fifty percent
heavier than a person. The logistical challenge of processing
that many pigs each year is roughly equivalent to butchering and
boxing the entire human populations of New York, Los Angeles,
Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego,
Dallas, San Jose, Detroit, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, San
Francisco, Columbus, Austin, Memphis, Baltimore, Fort Worth,
Charlotte, El Paso, Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston, Denver,
Louisville, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Las Vegas, Portland,
Oklahoma City and Tucson.
