Raging Grannies Against PVC (Green Festival)

by bill/kim/ruth (info [at] raginggrannies.com)
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic, commonly referred to as vinyl, is one of the most hazardous consumer products ever created! The Raging Grannies demonstrate in the SF Bay area against PVC, which is found in shower curtains, consumer packaging, and even RUBBER DUCKIES. Here the Grannies perform with song and skit at the 2006 Green Festival. Video by Bill Carpenter 45.4MB 3 min duration. Photos by Bill Carpenter, Kim Kinoshita, and G. Robertson.

Raging Grannies are ALL about protecting children and future generations. The Peninsula Raging Grannies Action League supports the Center for Health, Environment and Justice in its appeal to TARGET stores to stop carrying products containing PVC. San Francisco and San Jose Raging Grannies joined the Action League Grannies in singing at the Green Festival on environmental issues and especially about the dangers of PVC. For more about how you can make PVC free purchases or join the campaign for safe consumer products visit http://www.pvcfree.org or http://www.raginggrannies.com

Granny Joan innocently shows off the rubber ducky she bought for her grandkids. Granny Hazmat Inspectors declare the presence of PVC and quickly quarantine the stage marking it off with caution tape.

That's our Granny Ann on the left with her stage prop "light up" wand. When waved over a PVC contaminated object, it lets off a warning Hmmmrrrr and flashes bright red. Granny Joan's rubber ducky is a stage prop rubber ducky...the real ones are those cute little bathtub toys that kids play with and, yes, put in their mouths too. Hard to believe such an innocent looking toy is made of PVC, but it's true!

better to stick with lead in these products and know the dangers we face
by Granny Ruth R (info [at] raginggrannies.com)
In November 2007, almost exactly one year after Grannies sang at the Green Festival, Target finally signed a commitment put forth to it by activists to reduce PVC in their packaging and children's and infants' toys. Raging Grannies, along with a coalition of health and environment activists declared victory!
