by Worker Freedom
The Shattuck Cinema Workers are releasing the following statements to Landmark Cinema Workers and Patrons:

Dear Cinema Workers:

Greetings from the Shattuck Cinema Workers in Berkeley.

Today with the help of local IWW members we are contacting Landmark Cinema customers at your theater.

At this time it is important that we inform Landmark customers of our efforts to unionize and ask for support.

Why we Unionize:

* Better pay
* More control over job conditions
* Respect
* Solidarity with our co-workers
* Bargaining power

Starting wage has already been raised and hourly wage increases with union approval. This is no coincidence.

The boss may mention this flyer / story. Please contact the IWW to hear our side of the story.

Dear Cinema Patron:

The workers are making an effort to unionize the Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley, California, one of the 59 Landmark Cinemas.

After voting overwhelmingly for union representation with the IWW (Indutrial Workers of the World), the workers are now negotiating with landmark for a fair contract.

Some limited progress has been made. However, Landmark is not really interested in a fair deal. Mainly because they don't want unionized workers at all.

We want Landmark to respect our right to organize and bargain a fair contract.

We have received strong support from Landmark customers and members of the Bay Area community. Community support is a very important part of our campaign for a union. Many customers have asked if they should boycott the theater, Our response is "not at this time".

For more information on what you can do, please contact your local IWW member through this web site.
