Moving passengers

by Leonard Irving
A poem reflecting on the subtle terror of the War on Terror, and the end of Constitutional rights as we once knew them.

Now they are moving passengers
in secret from one country
to another.

Now they are saying
torture is fine.

Now they are holding prisoners
for years without trial.

Now they are saying
This is essential--
for reasons of security.

Now they say this is being done
that we may feel safe.

Who is safe? What is safe?

Do I see writing on the wall?

Yes.
What does it say?
What does it mean?
