UCSB Students lock down Chancellor's Office
Protests have been shaking the UCSB campus for almost two weeks now....
A tent city has been built by students and has sat in the center of campus since October 16th.
A tent city has been built by students and has sat in the center of campus since October 16th.
In the second action in two weeks UCSB students, community members, and campus workers stormed the Chancellor's office carrying out a brief occupation. The coalition is calling on the university to assist the 55 evicted Latino families in their struggle against Conquest Student Housing, a corporation that evicted the immigrant families in order to increase profits by renting out apartments to students. The coalition is also calling on the university to provide its workers with a living wage and better benefits. Finally, students are asking that Chancellor Yang take more initiative to pressure the Regents to adopt admissions and outreach policies that will help build a more diverse student body at UCSB and in higher education in general.
