Lights On! On October 12th, children and members of the School Health Programs Department (SHPD) ExCEL took to the streets to join more than 7,500 sites across the nation celebrating and promoting after school programs as part of the 7th Annual Lights On After School. The intent was to send a message that after school activities is key to children's success and that we must keep the lights on – and doors open – after school. Quality after school programs provide children with opportunities to discover hidden talents as they grow academically as well as socially. Parents, media, employers, neighbors, school officials and others were all invited to help rally for safe, stimulating after school programs. To help support these activities a 2nd Annual Harvest Festival will be held on October 27th, 2006 at the McKinley elementary school's lower yard (1024 14th street) at 6:30-9:30pm. Everyone is invited to join in for a night of fun, food and games where all proceeds goes to benefit the After School Enrichment Program.
