Labor Line Presents

SF Maritime Workers Battle Bush-Hornblower Union Busting

Alcatraz Cruises, of Hornblower Dining and Yachts has refused to recognize union workers who have worked on the Alcatraz ferry since its opening as a National Park. Full time jobs with pension and benefits are being replaced with casual part time workers and no union. On Monday September 25, 2006 maritime workers from the IBU-ILWU BA Region, Masters, Mates and Pilots and ILWU Local 10 protested the flagrant discrimination by Hornblower Dining and Yachts owner and the effort by the federal government to push non-union operations in the San Francisco bay. The demonstration took place at Pier 31/33 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, one quarter mile south of Pier 39 in San Francisco.
