House pages should be 18 or older

[ A simple proposal to reduce sexual exploitation of teen pages,
by raising minimum age to 18.
Please forward this idea (preferably in your own words)
to your local U.S. Congressperson,
regardless of party.

Open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives:

Until after the November 2006 election,
we can expect Page-Gate to produce
much heat and scant light.

After the election, chastened adults should reform the House page program,
drastically.

The minimum age for actual service on Capitol Hill should be raised to 18 (eighteen),
so that pages would be adults, at least in the eyes of the law.

Pages should receive their appointments a year or two
before their 18th birthdays, so they could plan ahead.

Pages who have already earned their high school diplomas
could take freshman-level college courses,
taught on the Hill (like the present high-school classes),
during their period of service.
