THE 1ST ANNUAL GANDHI BIRTHDAY POEMS & PERFORMANCE FOR PEACE


WHAT: The 1st Annual Gandhi Birthday Poems & Performance for Peace

WHEN: Sunday, October 1, 2006, 1-6 PM

WHERE: The Gandhi statue, in the square east of the south end of the San
Francisco Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, between the feet of Mission and
Market Streets.


The 1st Annual Gandhi Birthday Poems for Peace and Performance Open will be
held Sunday, October 1, 2006, from 1-6 PM around the Gandhi Statue in a square
east of the south end of the San Francisco Ferry Building on the Embarcadero at
the foot of Mission & Market Streets. Poets, musicians, dancers...will be able
to sign up for 5 minutes, beginning at 12:30 PM.

Monday, October 2 (also Yom Kippur this year) is the 137th anniversary of the
Hip Mahatma's birth -- and the end of the Days of Awe in this year's Hebrew
calendar. Themes of the afternoon will include but are not limited to peace,
love, service, fasting, justice, marches, passive resistance, non-violent
direct action, civil disobedience, anarchism. . .

Attendees are asked to bring garlands for the statue, cushions, food and drink
to share. . . All are encouraged to take public transportation--busses,
trolleys, fairies, BART (Embracadero stop 2 blocks away--or bicycle.

The event is undertaken and executed by Peace for Keeps and About My Bother's
Business, non-profit divisions of U.S. Out of Whack. Co-hosted by Diamond Dave
Whitaker and Arnie Passman.
