Spraying Opponents to Hold Press Conference in Davis Today at 5 PM
A coalition of community organizations opposed to pesticide spraying by the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District will hold a press conference at 5 pm today, August 4, in front of City Hall, 23 Russell Boulevard, (corner of Russell Blvd. and B St.), in Davis.
The district announced they would be aerial spraying the Davis/Woodland area with adulticides beginning Thursday evening, but they weren’t able to spray last night because of high winds. The coalition, including Stop West Nile Spraying, No Spray Sacramento and Organic Sacramento, says it has over 500 signed letters from Davis residents asking for a city-wide opt-out.
“There is no evidence of the effectiveness of the adulticide spraying in stopping West Nile Virus,” said Kim Glazzard of Organic Sacramento. “We want the district to use the most effective method of rapid response – larvaciding and extensive public outreach - to protect Davis residents.”
