WHO PAYS for the use of credit cards?

Credit-card users may pay fees.

But another class of consumers also subsidizes card use,
unknowingly or unwillingly.

Merchants pay a fee, around two percent of the purchase,
every time
a customer pays with plastic.

Then the merchants raise prices by the same percentage
(at least).
These higher prices are paid by ALL customers.

So, in the supermarket checkout line,
when Joe uses a card
while Susan pays cash,
Susan is subsidizing Joe.
