"U.S.-Israeli" war? Iran-U.S. proxy war?
How deceptive labelling can mislead careless readers...
The "U.S.-Israeli" war?
Or the "American-Iranian" proxy war" ?
.....
by Truthie Q
The Mexican-American War was between Mexico and the U$A.
The "Franco-Prussian" war(s) were between France and Prussia
(now part of Germany.
If you read about an Italian-Ethiopian war,
a Chinese-Vietnamese war, a Japanese-Chinese war, a Chilean-Bolivian
war, or an Iran-Iraq war, wouldn't you be able to guess who the main
parties were?
So, when a political sticker denounces "the U.S.-Israeli
war"* what are they talking about?
Taken literally, the phrase means war between Israel and her
only friend.
But the sneaky authors of this misleading phrase don't expect
you to read it literally. They mean to suggest, without actually
stating, that the U.S. and Israel are allied together against nobody.
Like, just bombing civilians for the heck of it, without facing any
serious foe.
If they stated the assumptions packed into their phrase,
no thinking person would believe them. But they're not looking for
those who think and read critically. They just hope that nobody will
bother to analyze their rhetoric.
There is a war occurring on Lebanese and Israeli soil today.
The frontline fighters are Israel and Hesbollah (a jihadist army).
So an honest writer might speak of the "Israeli-Hesbollah" war.
[As for the powerless "government" (?) of Lebanon, it's not
fighting.]
Or a writer could argue that Israel is a proxy for the U$A,
while Hesbollah is a proxy for Iran. That view may be wrong, or
overly simplified -- but it's not a deliberate deception.
Such a writer could speak of an "American-Irania proxy war".
Alas, when intelligent people become extremely angry, they
may lose their ability to write honestly, rationally, or fairly.
They may write misleading propaganda. Sometimes they even
believe their own lies.
(I am capable of doing so, in the heat of battle. I hope you're
NOT capable of self-deception. Are you? )

appears in San Francisco during July 2006,
announcing a demo to be held on August 12.

What's a "truthie"?
Is it an annoying person who seeks truth,
or who tries to speak truth;
even when others don't want to hear?
