2500 US troops killed in IRAQ - only part of the story.
Civilians reported killed by military intervention in Iraq

View Database... http://iraqbodycount.net

http://iraqbodycount.net is a noble undertaking, but readers will be mistaken if they think that is a best scientific guess at the true number of civilian fatalities from the attack on Iraq.
It is simply an accounting of press reports of killings. As the press does not venture out of the green zone, it is far from complete.

Current Arab world estimates in newspapers are in the 400,000 range. The Lancet medical Journal estimated 100,000 dead more than a year ago, judging more scientifically by counting and extrapolating from the number of people in morgues instead of newspaper reports.

If you have trouble imagining 100,000 civilians, consider how you would feel if everyone in the UM Stadium died at the hand of foreign power, by accident while trying to help us... no doubt.

That's a good example of 100,000 people. How many are just kids just trying to play football?

Missing post on NAFTA's superhighway through the Heartland Posted by: "Rich Martin" richslick [at] lycos.com Date: Sun Jun 18, 2006 11:57 am (PDT)Missing post on NAFTA's superhighway through the HeartlandDear readers,It seems my last post on this subject went astray. My apologies. Basicly it was about a new 10-lane super-highway, going from Mexico to Canada with a crossing in Kansas City going east & west. Chinese merchandise will be unloaded by Mexicans instead of longshoremen, saving consumers cash. If you're a longshoreman, or work for a company that will be competing with these even cheaper Chinese goods, you may want to look into the only sector of the economy still growing. Get a govt job.I found a more comprehensive article on the internet that will affect all of US.http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=884112006Have a great day. # Fri Jun 23 Noon - Breasts Not Bombs Demo this Friday in Oakland
Hey Everybody Breasts Not Bombs is Back!

Since I will be performing my one-woman show
OH MY GODDESS! at THE MARSH, 1062 VALENCIA ST, SAN FRANCISCO
THURSDAY JUNE 22ND THROUGH SATURDAY JULY 14TH AT 8 PM

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO OUR BREASTS NOT BOMBS DEMONSTRATIONS IN THE
BAY AREA

THIS IS TO ANNOUNCE OUR FIRST OF THREE ACTIONS

FRIDAY JUNE 23RD NOON
THE MILITARY RECRUITMENT CENTER IN OAKLAND
21ST AND BROADWAY

We are heartbroken over the story of US Soldier Suzanne Swift who has not
only suffered the emotional injuries of an unjust war, but further damaged by the
indecencies of soldiers in her own unit. She has refused to return to Iraq
and was arrested by the Military and taken to Fort Lewis in Washington. This
and the ongoing indecencies of the Military under George Bush and Donald
Rumsfeld, from Haditha to Guantanamo Bay brings us into the streets again to make the
most powerful,, positive non-vilent statement we can think of. We welcome
women and men to bare their Breasts to define what is decent in this world
(mothers, babies, kindness, nurturing, feeding, education, etc.) and what is not
(torutre, massacres, warprofiteering, raping female soldiers, etc) Bring signs
to indicate what you feel is indecent.

The right to demonstrate bare breasted in protected under the First Amendment.
If you have further questions about the legality of this demonstration feel
free to contact me at mothersmilk [at] mcn.org
The message is ready to be sent with the following file or link attachments:

# Road to Guantanamo Documentary Screening
Friday, June 23, 2006 - Friday, July 28, 2006
This Friday, June 23rd, is the U.S. opening of “The Road to Guantanamo,” the new award winning film by British director Michael Winterbottom. It is a film that documents the experience of the Tipton 3 while detained in Afghanistan and held for more than two years without charge or trial at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The film will be showing on various dates throughout the Nation- click here for dates & locations:
schedule.samuelgoldwynfilms.com/fi...mo/

***Will premiere at both Embarcadero Center Cinema in SF, and at Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley on 6/23/06-ignore the above listed time, and please contact the theatres for exact times!

“The Road to Guantanamo” is the terrifying first-hand account of three British citizens who were held for more than two years without charges in the American military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Known as the “Tipton Three,” in reference to their home town near Birmingham, the three were eventually returned to Britain and released — still having had no formal charges ever made against them at any time during their ordeal.

Part documentary, part dramatization, the film chronicles the sequence of events that led from the trio setting out from Tipton in the British Midlands for a wedding in Pakistan, to their crossing the Afghanistan border just as the U.S. began its bombing campaign, to their eventual capture by the Northern Alliance and their imprisonment in Camp X-Ray and later at Camp Delta in Guantanamo.

About Outdoors Explored -
Outdoors Explored is a personal project of mine. It was born from my love of outdoors and my frustration with my fitness "seeming" that I could not be active any more in the sports I love - hiking and cycling. So outdoors explored is me taking on the life I have always wanted and inspiring others to do the same. Based in the core of a love of nature, outdoors, beauty, grace and fun. Outdoors explored will offer day, overnight trips, weekend and week long trips starting in June through November and beyond.

These trips are not for those who want to be inspired or those who can inspire. These trips are for EVERYONE. Those leading the way, those who are ready to take lead of their life, and those already on the way. But mostly it is for those who want to have FUN outdoors. I will be organizing the trips with anyone who want to help. There will be at least 2 events per month which increase in intensity and fun along the way. My personal goal is to get in shape to hike Half-Dome (at Yosemite, 17 miles, 4800') by mid - October. As a group we can support each other goals and have fun doing it. There is no commitment to go on every trip or even more than one. I am putting this out to my community of friends and look forward to connecting with you and meeting new people along the way. There is no fee to participate, just any fees that national, state, county and city parks, ferries, restaurants, or bars will charge us. So start getting ready, pull your shoes out of the closet, dust off your bike, and let's head out of the city into the wilderness. Find info on other upcoming trip on http://www.myspace.com/moneak1.

# California Witchcamp! Sunday, June 25, 2006 - Sunday, July 2, 2006
Come spend a week in the redwoods doing ritual!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reclaiming California Witchcamp 2006 Northern California, Mendocino Woodlands

This is an extraordinary event for extraordinary people.

Share in a week of Reclaiming style, earth based spirituality and magic. Come and study magic and ritual in a week long Intensive. Witchcamp is offered to women and men at all levels of experience. Newcomers can learn the basic skills of magic and ritual, working with the elements, movement, sound and the mythological and historical framework of the Goddess Tradition.

Advanced classes offer the chance to apply the tools of ritual to personal healing and empowerment, or a focus on taking the Craft out into the world, creating public ritual, ongoing groups, and healing issues surrounding leadership and power. This event is a deeply moving, life changing week and also a constant experiment in temporary village life. We will also look at ways of bringing this work and inspiration into our everyday lives. Creating powerful, joyful times.

This year Witchcamp will be held at the Mendocino Woodlands, located just far enough outside the town of Mendocino to avoid coastal fog. The camp is set among a mature Redwood/Douglas Fir forest, creating a beautiful, peaceful setting. The cabins are rustic, but pretty. Camping is also an option. A small river runs through the camp, which is actually the home of steelhead trout. To request a brochure, please send us an email to info @ californiawitchcamp.org include your snail mail address.

# What's Happening to the Polar Bears?
How Climate Change is Starting to Affect Wildlife

Come hear Dr. Lara Hansen Chief Scientist for the World Wildlife Fund

Monday, June 26 - 7 - 8:30 pm
First Presbyterian Church 1140 Cowper St., Palo Alto

Recently, disquieting news from Arctic wildlife experts has described how polar bears are reacting to changes in their food supply which scientists believe are due to global climate change. Dr. Lara Hansen, chief scientist of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Climate Change Program, will present a slide-illustrated talk describing what's happening to polar bears and other Arctic life, as well as how global warming is affecting coral reefs and other ecologically sensitive areas around the planet.

Dr. Hansen will also explain conservation strategies that can buy more time for endangered species - and what Californians can do to slow the pace of global warming.

Tickets for the talk are $5, available at the door. Sponsored by Acterra, the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, and World Wildlife Fund, the program will include time for audience questions.

Based on research findings, Dr. Hansen predicts that climate change may surpass the impact of deforestation, causing the extinction of more than one million species in the next 50 years. Dr. Hansen's work focuses on how to increase the resilience of ecosystems, and she will explain how the WWF's efforts are influencing trends in conservation and society, creating successful multifaceted approaches to address the challenge of global warming.

** The Green Scare is a federal round-up environmental and animal rights activists, which The National Lawyer's Guild among others has condemned as unconstitutional. Officially called "Operation Backfire", this wide-scale orchestrated investigation of activists uses paid informants, warrantless spying on a range of organizations, and threats of severe sanctions to leverage fear of conviction under unprecedented penalties for property crimes. 888-NLG-ECOLAW is a hotline established to support these activists. Visit http://www.greenscare.org for more info on solidarity with Green Scare victims. **
** The G8, or Group of 8, is the seven wealthiest industrialized nations in the world plus Russia. They officially meet once a year to strategize policies and plan their joint domination of the world, and in recent years have been confronted by intense popular demonstrations wherever they go. The political heads of these countries -- the U.S., Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan -- are pushing the agenda of corporate globalization at the cost of the welfare of the people they claim to represent. We take to the streets when the G8 meets to reject their worldview of profit at any cost, and to reclaim our commons of autonomous political space. Authentic democracy or corporate oligarchy? The choice is ours... **

# July 15 - Day of Action against Climate Change and G8 - EF! Call to Action!
A call to action from Earth First! Climate Caucus and Rising Tide North America
July 15th 2006 -- Direct Action for Climate Justice

International Day of Direct Action
against Climate Change and the G8
Rise Up Against G8 Policies
Target Fossil Fuel Industries in Your Town or Bioregion

On July 15th, the "Group of 8" (G8) richest industrialized countries will gather in St. Petersburg, Russia to plot their continued commodification and domination of the planet, this time under the banner of "Energy Security." A leaked G8 "Communique on Energy Security" calls for trillions of dollars in new investments in oil, gas and coal production worldwide, plus wide-scale global expansion of nuclear energy. With runaway climate change* looming just over the horizon, such neoliberal business-as-usual poses a direct threat to the continuation of life on Earth as we know it. Resistance is self defense. The G8 agenda promotes petroleum-dependent "Energy Security" that pollutes our land and atmosphere, ravages poor and indigenous communities, and scorches the Earth's climate. Their recipe for disaster must be met with our global resistance!

July 15th will be an International Day of Action Against Climate Change. As G8 energy ministers promise trillions in new subsidies to the industries destroying our planet and our future, we will take action to shut them down! This is a call for autonomous, decentralized actions appropriate for your town, city, or bioregion. Use this international day of action to support local struggles against oil refineries, gas pipelines, strip mines and coal-fired power plants. Disrupt the financial backers of the fossil fuel industry. Host teach-ins to spread sustainable post-petroleum living skills. Find a weak point in the infrastructure of resource exploitation and throw a literal or symbolic wrench in the works. Visit your local polluters and give 'em hell!

The July 15th International Day of Action Against Climate Change is being mobilized by Rising Tide North America, a new network initiated in the US by the Earth First! Climate Caucus, with inspiration and support from the UK's vibrant Rising Tide direct action movement for climate justice and against climate change. Rising Tide North America is actively mobilizing July 15th actions in local bioregions, as well as reaching out to environmental justice, climate action and radical sustainability movements in all of the G8 countries plus the Global South.

Rising Tide North America is building a large collection of outreach and agit-prop materials that can be used by groups around the continent (and the world) to organize locally. These materials will be downloadable from http://www.reclaimthecommons.net and from the website of Rising Tide North America (comin' soon).

Join the Rising Tide North America network, and tell us about July 15th actions against climate change being planned in your community or bioregion! Contact us at efclimatecaucus [at] wildmail.com.

*19 of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since 1980. Islands in the South Pacific are already evacuating due to rising sea levels. Storms and hurricanes are growing more severe. Polar bears are drowning as their icy habitat breaks apart and drifts out to sea. Greenland and Antarctica are melting. Everyday we spew more greenhouse gases burned from fossil fuels into the atmosphere; everyday we are one step closer to what scientists refer to as "the tipping point," on the verge of catastrophic and irreversible climate chaos.

Camping for Bohemian Grove Convergence 2006

Dear Greens and other friends -

We hope you are planning to attend the July 22 protest and Green
Convergence at Bohemian Grove in Sonoma County. You will help shine
a light on what has been called the greatest men's party on earth; one
made up of many of the men who profit most from oil and the war to get
it. And others who gain vast wealth from cheap labor, keeping it "illegal"
or far off shore. And, of course, their political enablers.

The protest will take place starting at 1 P.M. in the Sonoma County town of
Monte Rio, at the parking lot across from the Rio theater, at the
intersection of Bohemian Highway and Hwy. 116. There will be a short
rally at the parking lot, followed by a march to the Bohemian Grove gate at
2 P.M.. Local organizers are planning a Saturday evening dinner and event
in Monte Rio starting at about 4 P.M. to finish out the day of protest and
community building.

This is a summer playground, and we hope you and your family, friends and
allies will come and make a week-end out of it. Below are contacts for a
number of the campgrounds and resorts in the vicinity. We will try to have
a group camp space set aside, but that has not been confirmed as of this
writing, and it should not be depended upon.

Most of these venues are first cone, first served, though it never hurts to
call and see if you can reserve a site:

so will be likely crowded with Civil War buffs.
