Adoption of the Flag Desecration Amendment would:

• Alter the Bill of Rights for the first time in American history by restricting the First Amendment
• Trivialize the Constitution by setting the precedent that our most sacred founding document (and the First Amendment at that!) is open for editing for partisan political purposes
• Add the United States to the short list of countries that have banned flag desecration, including Communist China, Cuba and Iraq under Saddam Hussein.
• Take away the very freedom that the flag is supposed to represent by restricting political free speech, punishing dissent and coercing patriotism
